Beautiful work!

Have you kept track of Wargames Factory, Otterman?   My impression from their website is that they are pretty forward-looking, and use similar design technology, though in plastic.

They won't make something so obviously IP infringing.

I have been contacting a few people regarding metal casting, since Reaper's $200 production mold rules out many of my plans. This may be a vain hope; $200 may simply be a practical minima for mass production.

I know that Prince August in Ireland was offering to make metal-compatible molds for around $80 each.  That was five or six years ago, so I'm not sure if that's still their going rate.

Beautiful work, though!  Which CAD program are you using to design these?

Black Rubber Mould (METAL MASTERS):

   * The process involves vulcanising rubber at 150 degrees centigrade around the master figure under 40tons of pressure.
   * A metal master has to be used and we would recommend our 5 star metal, tin, aluminium, bronze or iron.
   * Material of the master: metal, tin/lead with a melting point over 180.
   * Size of master: height max 100mm (4’)
   * Thickness max: 26mm (1’)
   * Shrinkage: approximately 2-3% in length and 5-7% in thickness.
   * Restrictions: No paint or glued parts allowed and restrictive use of Milliput.
   * Price per mould: 88 Euro

Silicone Rubber Moulds (Other Solid Materials):

   * This process involves pouring cold curing rubber over the master. This is a two stage process for each half of the mould. It is a labour intensive process and hence more expensive. The advantage of this process is that you can use masters made of any material.
   * Material of the master: metal, milliput, clay, resin, painted metal, plastic etc.
   * Size of master: height max 100mm (4’)
   * Thickness max: 26mm (1’)
   * Shrinkage: 0.1%.
   * Restrictions: masters have to be strong enough to sustain transport to us.
   * Final moulds can cast with resin or metal.
   * Price per mould: 247 Euro

It seem as if I should get my moulding gear back up and running.
Funny really, once I got really pure silicone and resin (=air free) I stopped.

I'm quite interested in their equal part silicone. At their "€85.00   2150g" it's not a bad price. But then freight to Sweden... I think I'll open up my old contacts again. It'll give me something to do...

Thanks for the info.

Javelin98, I use Moment of Inspiration (MoI). See www.moi3d.com.

It's a NURBS modeller that can output to STL format, it's cheap and easy ($200), and the programmer monitors his forums and provides rapid assistance.

Hmmm... 88 euros is about $110.  If a dozen of us chipped in $10, then Otterman could make some basic metal-friendly molds, and then sell us all a couple of pylons.  Call it buying shares or something.

Fantastic work.

I really have to learn how to do this sort of stuff.

My thoughts also. Count me in.  :agree:

Not sure the 88€ offer works for multiparts minis and the new €uro symbol is a 18 parts miniature.

Now there's a solid investment.  The returns may not be financial, but they would certainly be outstanding and consistant.

I'd be in for 2 or 3 shares.

I would estimate 5 molds for this thing, so don't get too excited. A "How many do you want" poll estimated 75 purchases, which would be about 50 in real life. At $15 a pop, that's a total income of $750.

For now I'm planning on 'sticking to' resin for this model.

Well, the euro emblem MkII is a beautiful model and I could do with having two of them for my army. Infact must have one but would like two.
Monoliths/Obelisks however, would be something I could use a lot more of, say ten to twenty assorted...
