Just a big thanks for all the sudden hard work from the people behind the Army Book project: whilst things have been lagging for a while (I understand due to real life getting in the way) you've really been flogging this horse hard with recent wishes to see it in action from the wider community.

From my understanding there was going to be an army list and reference pages per army and UNIT ENTRY for each unit in each army (i.e. with fluff, expanded stats where necessary and a nice picture) and this got me thinking. It would be REALLY NICE if these unit pictures proved as cohesive as possible in each army's sections: lord knows we've got enough amazing looking armies out there from players on these boards that full colour pictures can be provided without it looking like a hotch potch of models: the more we can draw from individual painters (per army) the better: I for example, know that I could supply a painted model for each unit in the Ghazgull list, we could then draw from another player for additional Feral Ork units etc.

Would there be any problem in including pictures of some of the proxy scratch builds that people have made for personal use from these boards?

Finally: I'm of the understanding that the intention is to release the army book as a full colour supplement ala Siege and Raiders? That would be most awesome :-).

YRs,
R>

I would be happy to sponsor pictures for all the Salamanders units :)

A major thank you from me as well, well done

I would be happy to provide pics (as always), though I couldn't guarantee cohesive results!

Not to burst bubbles, but that's not the actual intent of the NetEA Army Book at all.

Since this will be a "living" document being reviewed and changed yearly, to spend the time and effort printing it would be, in my mind, a waste of resources. The purpose of the book is to have a centralized resource for tournament organizers to draw on *AND* to act as an inspiration for other people to make full colour supplements with pics and write-ups and stories.

The pictures can certainly be gathered together for various supplement projects, so it's not a waste of effort to gather such things, but the NetEA Army Book/Compendium is not planned to be a supplement like Raiders or Siege.

So, speaking of pics... I need pics of Black Legion, Cultist, Ulthwe, and Cadian units for the "Black Crusade" supplement! Thanks for your efforts!

Well, one could decide to print it on his own.

I would like an illustrated reference doc anyway.

I think it's a shame you don't want any pictures in it considering even EpicUK can manage that.

As to 'Black Crusade', that's been at the starting line for 3 years now... And I thought you were going to concentrate on "total war" and "hive fleet" first?

Great work.

All documents could do with a bit of tidying up/editorial detail though. For example, ITCGaramondStd does have a multiplication sign, the little NetEA footer is still wrong etc.

Getting a solid reference point for the army lists is the important thing, adding pictures would be a fair amount of extra work, maybe could be considered in a future update?

I guess I agree...having the reference and an easy to access 'central document' for everything on these boards would help a LOT! Might also help lock some things in for a while and provided a new level of stability :-)

Nevertheless, if we do find ourselves stable a NetEA 'Epic Battles' Book supplement would be awesome huh?

It does... but, to my eye, it looks startlingly out of place, as it's completely unadorned. The original GW/SG documents use a lower-case letter "x" as their multiplication sign and I followed that. I believe you do typesetting professionally Apoc, so I'm actually going to trust you over GW and change it!

Which dashes, hyphens, etc, etc, *should* I be using in there as seperators?

Unit pics can always be added later. Being that this is a living document, I think having a year or so to gather the pics for the army lists would be better than delaying the initial release.

Ye the × does look 'unadorned' but this is deliberate so that it clearly stands out from the x. If you look at the Garamond + the × sits with it far better than the x, as both are designed as maths symbols. Doesn't *really* matter, but would look more professional, im just picky and annoying ;) .

The dashes are being used as a substitute for punctuation so either:
Quote:
NetEA Army Compendium – DRAFT – IMPERIAL NAVY – 1
(eg all spaced ens)

or older/American style:
Quote:
NetEA Army Compendium—DRAFT—IMPERIAL NAVY—1
(all non-spaced ems) As you are using spaced en dashes elsewhere, id go with the top option.

Also there are currently -- (two hyphens) being used as the 'null' value in notes, looks a bit odd because -- is a convention for indicating an en dash on typewriter (where there is no en dash key), maybe use an em dash?

Another slightly odd thing across the documents (haven't actually look closely yet), is do you mean to have a rule under the header row (UNIT, TYPE, SPEED, etc) of each table? Most docs don't seem to but first page of marines has it to varying degrees.
