Okay, the premise for this thread is simple. Let's make an exhaustive list of the sort of stuff that ought to be hashed out in the 5-minute warmup. I want everything, including the stuff already noted in the rulebook in the 5-min warmup section. I don't really want to get into discussion about what is the "right" or "best" answer just yet. Just the questions for now! If the rulebook notes a default answer (e.g. premeasuring ranges -> you can premeasure), then let's have that too. I'll start with the easy ones: • The ‘Counts As’ Rule (see 6.2.1) • Lines of Sight and Lines Of Fire • Fire Arcs on units • Pre-measuring • Templates and if units are ‘in or out’ • Terrain features – what do they count as on the terrain chart, when are units ‘in’ terrain • How you will show if a formation is broken, in overwatch or has marched this turn. |

What lists are being used, and any experimental changes etc. |

Were to measure objective range from (centre/edge). Going to extremes but what is a 'cocked' dice. |

I would say Rulebook + 2008 errata + tournie mods would be a good baseline. Checking your opponent is aware of the errata or tournie mods is a damn good thing in the 5-min warmup! Just because we all live online and keep in "the loop" doesn't mean everyone does! |

I was just indicating that I'd hope you'd discussed something like that while arranging the game... not as you're stepping up to the battlefield! *LAUGH* |

Measuring:- from the base edge or from a figure The "Disembarking 5cms" measurement Speed rolling for dice (and what it means) Hit and casualty, allocation and removal Leader identification both in the formation and in transport How people signify whether a unit is embarked or disembarked Identifying shields, DC strength and the SC reroll What Titans and WE can see over And finally, whether to play with shared dice etc (though oddly enough people don't like me using their dice for some reason, and seem to think that they will suffer some unspeakable fate if they touch mine ![]() |

I rarely "arrange" games, I just play against other players who are at the same gaming nights as I am. In such a case it's very sensible to be clear to your opponent during the warm up about what lists etc are being used for the game. You've posted several battle reports where you "surprised" opponents with off-the-wall lists. Did you not "spring" this on them during the five minute warm-up? |

Well, my friends always know ahead of time if it'll be "playtesting", if that's what we're doing, instead of a "regular" game, they just don't know what army they'll be facing when they arrive, so I guess it's a different "vibe" then playing a pick-up game. |

Surely the most important question is do you want a beer/coffee etc? ![]() Pointing out your BTS is usually pretty vital, especially if you're using a little known list. |

Any more warmup questions - there are loads of things that have come up recently, surely? |

I think the army-list-rules-used thing is a matter of the Epic culture. In the UK there seems to be a highly concentrated number of players in a small geographical area. In the U.S. and Canada people are very spread out so there is more planning that goes into the games. Seldom do you just show up someplace and throw down an Epic army on this side of the pond. |
