Post subject:  What's happened to the Handbook?

Hi All,

I'm back posting again after having to have dealt with a few personal issues (home burglary, marital separation - the usual stuff!). Anyway, I can't help noticing that the E:A Handbook 2008 by Markconz is no longer to be found. This was the version my group in Melbourne was using as it represented a stable (final?)version of the rules. Coming back to this forum it seems that Errata are out for the Official rules, yet people are still talking about changes to the rules and army lists. (witness my beloved Black Legion on other threads)
Has the EA Handbook been pulled or pinned? Did GW crack it over IP or copyright?

The Handbook is still around and can still be used:

The rule development you see is currently with regards to NetEA, a small minimalist set of changes on top of the 2008 Errata and FAQ.

Sorry. Try it now.

Any chance of the handbook being updated to reflect only those changes approved in the official errata and the Net EA tourney mods document?

A Net E:A Handbook would be a most useful thing to have.

The tourney mods are a stop-gap and shouldn't, IMO, be added to the handbook.

I thought the point of the handbook was so that we could have an up-to-date compilation of all the rules and army lists.

If the goal of Net E:A is to get everyone on [nearly] the same page, I think the handbook ought to be updated. I can't believe it would take all that much effort to do either, since most of the hard work is in the initial formatting, which is already done.

I fail to see how adding stop-gap tournament balance tweaks to the book makes it more up to date. Or better. Or does anything other than put non-official material into a document that is meant to compile all the official changes.

The tweaks are a single page. Is it really that big of a deal to print out one page?

A Net E:A Handbook would be a most useful thing to have.

Jervis requested that Markconz use his handbook to generate an integrated document with all the official changes from the 2008 Errata and FAQs.  Mark agreed, but real life hit.  Hena was backup, but there were software problems that I don't think were ever resolved and probably cannot be without Mark's help.  As a result the project has languished.

That was to be an official compilation posted to the SG website.  It would not include any of the NetEA stuff.

A separate NetEA doc is certainly a long term plan but the tourney mods aren't necessarily something to integrate into the overall rules.  They are intended to go with the official army lists.  While the NetEA army lists may include some of the same changes, they likely won't include all of them.  Putting the tourney mods in as a part of a NetEA handbook is a fine idea, but they need to stay separate.

I'll be working on putting together an Errata/FAQ inclusive main rulebook as I've gotten a hold of Markconz's raw "codex" documents.

This "update" will not include the "NetEA Recommendations" as Jervis just wanted something with the "official errata/changes" included.

NetEA will, eventually, get a new rulebook once all the army reviews are completed.

Thanks for noticing. I'm on top of things now. My friends, not least of which were my gaming companions, rallied around and got me through
