Post subject: | [Question] Dangerous Terrain and War Engines |
Okay, something came up in the Tyranid forums and I realized I didn't have an answer, and looking in the rulebook didn't clarify things, so I think this needs to be addressed and, I hope!, changed in the rulebook. If a war engine fails a dangerous terrain test is it completely destroyed, regardless of DC? A strict reading of the rules would seem to indicate this is so, but that seems *extremely* harsh! We've always played it being "1DC damage", but I now find that's not indicated anywhere. So, is this the case? Or could Dangerous Terrain be reworded to be "unit takes one hit, with no saves allowed" or something? Unless it *is* meant to completely destroy war engines... |

I have always thought (and played) that it just makes one point of damage (1 DC of damage). |

I can't say that its come up for me but causing one hit certainly does make sense. |

Had the same issue yesterday. Per rulebook it states destroyed but we also thought that sounded a bit harsh and so agreed that would apply as one point of damage. Had no effect on game as warhound had already taken 2 points of damage but wanted to clarify more for future occasions. Would be useful if we could get an official FAQ answer on this though. A Leman Russ in a swamp gets bogged down, a baneblade sinks. I like destroyed, fits nicely IMHO, besides didn't jervis in his notes write something on how he deliberatly changed the Dangerous terrain rules from Epic40k for the worse? |

It seems a little harsh to me, too. 1 DC damage sounds reasonable. |

(Shoel @ Oct. 29 2007,10:02) QUOTE A Leman Russ in a swamp gets bogged down, a baneblade sinks. A Russ hits a tree and throws a track... a Baneblade hits a tree and explodes?! Sorry, I just can't accept that as the actual intent of the rules. A Warlord Titan is no Goliath taken out by a simple rock! *laugh* |

It was staring in our faces all along, but was found for us by Yme-Loc and LordInqusitor on the SG boards. 3.1 WAR ENGINE MOVEMENT War engines follow the same movement rules as any other unit. War engines that fail a dangerous terrain test suffer a hit (see the damage rules below). |
