What about the full review? Let's take the Chaos aircraft. Clearly there's a desire to get new aircraft stats together that match the forgeworld aircraft. Where do we stand on that? That's certainly not a minimalist change.

Full review is just that - check everything, balance everything.  Change things stylistically as needed to match revised 40K background, with a reasonable nod towards model availability.

Try not to do anything heinously disruptive like wholesale changes of the army list structure but things like changing to an available aircraft model or revising the Defiler to reflect its non-artillery character is within reason, as are, obviously, lesser stat mods and point tweaks.

I really don't envy you the BL revisions in that regard...

Long Live EPIC

Thanks for dropping by Matt, I didn't mean to kick off such a stink. :D

@Rug
I feel these comments are pretty subjective- basically your oppinion and that of the rest of your gaming group. We did discuss the differing views of little groups on Friday....

Certainly my comments reflect my opinion ; It's my opinion that the majority of people who post to this board think that the Black Legion list has some serious internal balance issues, and I stand by that statement.

There are pictures of the chaos armies used in the tournaments... far from identical!? Now look at most Marine and Guard lists.......

Marine and Guard lists do vary wildly (At the first tournament I came along to, there were 6(?) guard lists, each of which had a different theme, mechanised, infantry, tanks, flyers, etc...), the BL lists don't really, because there's only one way to build a competative BL list, due to the aforementioned internal issues.

IMHO... though Joe agreed with me on this last Friday I think.

The French scene has gone its own way... and has a very successful prospering scene, I feel this is because the organiser is listening to those who actually attend the tournaments and not people with little or no experience in tournaments who have little intention of turning up.

I can't help but think you're talking about me, a chap who's already paid to enter another tournament, turned up at one last week to chat just because he was in the area, and intends to enter quite a few more tournaments this year too...

As to the French, they're awesome. :)

Thats Jervis's recent interpretation based mostly I suspect on the fact he doesnt really have the time or resources available to try and go through loads of point and stat changes - hence no official intention to take onboard any other changes (constructive or not).

Certainly, the scope of the official rules review was constrained by the situation.

Now of course there are subtle things wrong with lists and yes maybe we could try and fix everything at once but I can guarantee that no consnesus will be reached and almost certainly given the fairly limited resources your trying to do it with you will probably create more problems than you solve.

Indeed, short term I favour the minimalist approach, but I'd like to see something more ambitious long-term... as long as it's kept approachable for noobs.

Black Legion is actually pretty easy in that respect... after all, we can edit the original documents (and indeed make a better looking format while we're at it). Unlike the core or swordwind lists, where actually editing the lists is realistically impossible, we can make changes to the online BL document.

We won't be able to update the doc on the official website though.

(you have addmitted yourself that your list is not great!)

Aye but I still finished 5th? 6th? (I forget), in the top third anyway... mind you I think that may be somewhat due to Gavin's dice. :D

I can't think why you should think I was talking about you

I'm a writer, we're (too) good at subtext. :)

I didn't realise that was factored in actually, but now you come to mention it that must have bumped me a place or two... hey, at least I came in higher than Pulsar with his unpainted Avatar. :D

1. Why change the 'They Shall Not Pass' victory condition? It doesn't make sense in game terms

IIRC some of the players didn't like the rule so they changed it.

Matt's tournaments also allow the famous 'Drop Pod Swap', which was specifically dealt with (banned) in the rules review I think?

There are a couple more rules changes too, but I forget.

Incidentally there is already two sets of tourney rules in the UK - the WPS and GW's (though GW only does one a year).

3 - Open War is run by the 1st company vets and uses the core rules and their own scoring system without the wps amendments. And they have in the past allowed 'Nids to be used (splitters! :) )

Also whats to stop these arty batteries with tractors setting up in woods or other cover and using the tractors as bullet catchers and/or to make the formation harder to break.

The difference being the AA batteries  and Artillery are both LV's so would get -1 to being shot but no cover save as only infantry get the benefit of a cover save.
