Who said anything about other people's IP?  The Handbook 2008 is very much a support of GW.  The idea is to use Handbook 2008 while simultaneously developing an alternative ruleset.  Once the alternate is complete it is another choice completely.  The two will never intermingle.

Many cooks... small kitchen... one screw-up...  that's all it takes...

Good intentions and the road to hell and all that.  *laugh*

I'm just saying, "Be cautious."

Cautious is good.  But pitter-pattering around the kitchen doesn't make you a cook - it makes you a janitor.  :p

Right now, aren't we more like pallbearers? ?*laugh*

And that French rat did a *great* job pitter-pattering around the kitchen! ?*laugh*

From the SG Minis thread:

I have almost given up passing these comments on.

But, from Warseer:

I spoke to Jervis today (mostly about how badly the 40K rules were presented), but raised the issue of Epic. Jervis' answer was along the lines of sorting our the rules into a 'final edition' of epic armageddon. What that means i don't know.

*sigh*

I don't know what the hell that means, either.  I sent an email out today to the guys on the ad hoc ERC (Gregx2 and JJ). Nothing has changed since my summary above, making it a month since Jervis commented on anything, and almost that long since Greg Lane sent anything.

I basically asked if we were going to determine a method for resolving the disputes or just call off the review, because we aren't even vaguely approaching closure.

Whoohoo!!!

BIG BIG BIG NEWS!!

I have been in contact with Jervis regarding specific rule issues.  His goal is to have an official set of "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" on the change doc items within a week.

He asked me not to give out any details on what has been accepted or rejected so far, but he said we could announce the overall plan.  Short term is a release of an errata doc and additional FAQs, then intended integration into a single rulebook doc.  No timelines on the doc production, just the 1-week goal on the decisions.

Special thanks to Pixelgeek for consistently pestering JJ and Andy in his own unique and demanding fashion.

Thanks for the news, Neal. Normally I would automatically be pessimistic, but for once I'm optimistic, albeit cautiously.

Cool!

From the jubilant tone of your post, Neal, it seems like you are confident about things this time. Thats heartening

Really good news at last - so I will be cautiously optimistic with DS .

Cautiously optimistic :)  Seems like it may have been worth the hassle after all. Thanks to everyone who contributed. I will update the Handbook again (if it actually happens).

Though even if it does happen I have to say it still feels like a rather hollow victory to me given the work we have put in.  I really don't understand how you can seem so excited or 'vindicated'  Hena? After making the Handbook and Change Documents and continuous hassling of SG,  this is just the bare minimum I was expecting, and I doubt very much that anything at all would have happened without that impetus.  Really the whole situation is still pathetic more than anything else. What confidence can we really have in SG after all this process (or lack of it)?  They are still not producing the figure ranges they promised, and have instead been slashing SG release schedules and even existing SG inventory. There is still not any set process for reviewing rules, appointing army champs etc. At the worst, this event might even just cripple things further in the long run.

Happy for what it is, but lets not get delirious about it... keep the reality glasses on.  :alien:

@Markonz: But it?s moving. That?s more than we have expected. And things that move are not so easily stopped. :)

Why wear reality glasses for a game of fantasy? :D  I'll get excited again.  Set up the football, Lucy.  Charlie Brown is coming in for the kick!

Neal, thanks for the information.  Should I even bother asking about the ERC stuff or should I just shut up and be pleased that we're getting anything?
