A while ago there were some hints that the official E:A PDF's would be updated with the recent rules changes and corrections of typos. Any more news about this?

Cheers
Phil

They were updated, sent to GW, approved by Jervis... and the GW website guys haven't put them up.

Wasn't there some business about not uploading them because they didn't have translated versions for other languages (i.e. a French version, since no other site has translated version of the original book either)?

And, since it would involve spending actual resources to get a translated version done, it's never going to happen.

They will be put out at the same time we get a website up and running. Currently we are thinking if the army book should put out at the same time too (thus would wait until that get finished).

Great!

Unless there is some sort of co-dependency between the updated E:A rule[book] pdfs and the NetE:A army book, I'd lobby for putting the finished document[s - the rulebook .pdfs] up as soon as the website goes live [and not wait for the army book .pdf, which is unfinished at this time].

For one, it would be very useful to have the rules (which presumably aren't changing [unlike the armybook, which may still be in flux]) sooner rather than later. For another, it would help drive traffic to the site from the beginning.

Given that we've waited so long for the updated [official] rule[book .pdfs], waiting a bit longer may not seem like such a big deal, but the fact is we've been jerked around so much waiting for them that it would inspire alot of confidence in the community if you guys would get them] posted as soon as you can.

[editted for clarity]

The EA Rules update and the NetEA army book have nothing to do with each other.

The rules update documents took the original GW/SG .pdfs and updated them to include all errata and updates.  These include all the graphics and photos and are copyrighted by GW; they were designed to replace the .pdfs that are currently on the GW site.  This is not a "NetEA Rulebook" or the like.

Due to this potential copyright issue, we, as a fan-based body, can't just go posting those .pdfs where we please.  Inspiring confidence in the community would be great, but not at the expense of GW shutting this all down.

Could us have a short list of "we"?

"We" is the NetERC: Hena, nealhunt, and myself.  With the help of CyberShadow for web stuff.

Other than I made one and you made the other

Well, one is official (yours) and one is fan-based (mine).

I didn't realize that there were 2 separate rules docs (one with just the rules, and one with the rules +IP/copyrighted stuff). Based on the response to the OP, I thought we were talking about the exact same .pdf that we've been waiting to be posted to the GW site.

Er, there's not two rules docs, there's: 1) the full updated rules using the SG/GW files as a template, 2) a book of armies, no core rules.

And with JJ's blessing already. Good.
Get 'em up so we can have everything in ONE place.

And the added positive effect that an army list isn't up and running until included as approved in the netERC Army Book.

Yeah! Everything in one place! I lUUUUve these news. Finally it's happening!

Ok, I inferred from this that you guys had made a separate rules document that avoided said copyright issues (somehow). Now I see that you were speaking in general about anything that gets posted to the NetEA site.

Just so we're clear, the only point in my original post was that, given the choice of having everything [rulebook docs, NetEA army book, etc.] posted at the same time in the future, or having things posted piecemeal as each individual document is finalized - I prefer the latter over the former.

If something is in a completed state, and you are allowed to post it (which, I understand in this case, may be the biggest hurdle), then please don't wait. Go ahead and put it up as soon as you can.
