Hi all,
that grand old ship the Cutty Sark is ablaze.
Fate of the Sark.
I'd only visited her once, and wanted to see her again; now I doubt they'll save abything from her.

I too have visited this lovely old maritime icon and have a model of her on my desk at work.  What a tragedy.

The only consolation is that is wasnt HMS VICTORY.

Ouch, I too only saw it one, when I was very young, the fact that I still remember it quite vividly says that it was something worth seeing. . . that is such a shame

I'm no more than a mile away from the Sark right now... I'm gonna drive over and see how bad the damage is.

Damn shame.  At least it sounds like there might be something salvageable(?)

I got my parents to photograph their visit to HMS Victory when they visited last year... I'm on the opposite side of the world but I'll see her in person some day.

It was mostly a shell, all the interior, masts had been removed for restoration. So the boat may live. Though it might be like triggers broom.

It's a good thing it was under restoration already, otherwise the damage probably would have been a lot worse. It does sound like they'll be able to repair the damage.

When I lived in Portsmouth for two years, I chose a place specifically so I could see VICTORY from my bedroom window!  :D
