Is it right to attend ReaperCon?

You can find info about ReaperCon here, but in summary it's a convention held by Reaper in Denton, north Texas, a mere 30 minutes travel away.

Is it right for me to pay admission, and attend classes on painting and sculpting?

It's my hobby 'duty' to seek to increase my skills, but I fear learning that I have peaked - that I will never get better.

I guess it depends on how much it costs to get in. Given your advanced skills, odds are you're not going to learn anything all that new, but you never know.

Personally I'd love to go to ReaperCon, so sure - go! As for the classes, I suspect that they will be aimed more at beginners so I don't know how good they'll be. But don't worry - it isn't possible that you have peaked - there's always room for improvement. :)

This would be my thoughts as well.

What you should worry about is not whether there is more you can be taught, but whether you can find those that are skilled enough to know something you don't.   :confuse:

I was thinking the same thing, too.

Anne Foerster, Jen Haley, and Werner Klocke will be there. If I can sculpt and paint better than them, then I must be The One. And I'm not The One. I'm the stubborn fool that makes silicon molds.

I think that these ReaperCon classes are tailored and partially tailored and for all ranges. I have heard good responses from people that have been - although admittedly on the Reaper board.

Probably worth turning up to.

Even if the classes proper aren't all that valuable for you, you will be around a bunch of geeks who will be more than happy to trade tips.  Personally, I've gotten more good ideas from talking with people who use painting styles that differ from mine than from any other source.

Pricing: $30 for basic attendance, $20 per 2 hour class.

From the nigh-infinite number of classes, I will only be able to attend a subset of them: those that are on Friday evening and Saturday, and from those, the ones I can afford.

We get to see the manufacturing facility! I get to see real miniatures being made! Well, from metal. Technically speaking, I make 'real' miniatures from resin.

I would go if it weren't for the several thousand kilometers of distance. I would probably try to focus on the classes on places where I felt my skills were weaker. Sculpting, advanced painting, molding and casting, etc.

Signed up, and paid up, for "Seeing in Red", "Blending Techniques" and "Alternate Source Lighting".

If I like this event, I can expand my attendance next year.

Seconded! :)  It will be interesting to see how the pros/experts do their stuff anyway.  Plus you'll get to see lots of nicely painted miniatures, and spend all day talking about making/painting miniatures.  Awww, geek heaven! :D
