Manufacturer for modern era models?

Looking for some company producing wide variety of models suitable for wargaming in 1980-present time era. 10mm scale max, preferably 6mm(any higher and gaming board size becomes problem for believable scales and in numbers I like...). Problem is: I haven't found any such company...

Maybe somebody here has more of knowledge on one or more of such companies? One is enough if product line is comprehensive but if not then multiple companies will do.

There are a few producers in 6mm.

The best quality wise is 'GHQ', but they can be a bit expensive. Saying that though they are brilliant models. They are US based, but I think they have a European sales agent.

A cheaper option would be 'Navwar', a massive range and reasonable price. Based in the UK.

Another would be 'Scotia Micro Models', again a big range, but some of the casts in my opinion could be alot better. Based in the UK.

'Skytrex' also produce 6mm, although I don't think they have anything that you can't get through the others. Based in the UK.

I'm not sure if 'C&C' have a modern range, but they are good quality, can't remember if they are in US or UK.

So all in all, if it was me I would probably go with Navwar, simply because you could get  most of what you need from one place.

I'm sure some of the others here know of a couple of other companies.

Well. Hopefully they have that information SOMEWHERE and if nothing else I'll send up emails but that's one poorly designed website for sure!

Good ruleset would be nice but I just HATE warmaster with it's many bizare rules(including regeneration...How on earth M1A2 abrams suddenly forgets being damaged in a first place just because turn ended?). So no cold war commander. Need to find something else(been thinking of converting something out of epic to fit the bill if nothing else comes across).

Dont get me started on Navwar! They produce excellent minis... but only stay open for four hours a week for questions, have no email, and dont provide any pictures of anything! If you have questions, post them here as a few of us have some.

The UK distributer for GHQ is:

They are very good, and while they dont always have everything in stock, they get supplies every couple of months.

a) Anybody have any pictures of navwar stuff? Bit of hard to make decision when all you have is name of unit and price...Doesn't tell much about quality of models  :;):

b) Fell in love with GHQ's quality. Those models are beatifull! But yeah. Bit of pricey. Though cheaper than GW.

Not sure how usefull that UK supplier is though...The stuff there is even MORE pricey than from GHQ...6? for 8.95$ blister. So far so good. Except $-? ratio is pretty nice ATM...

Quick calculation for 20 blister showed me that it would cost 214.8$ including postage ie about 165?. From UK supplier it would then be 120? or 180?.

And trend is worse the higher it gets...

Are there any hidden costs(taxes etc) related to ordering them from US?

But damn the models look good.

Hi Tneva, as far as I recall, no extra $ needed for US to Europe orders - but I'd check with them first. I purchased some models directly from them, and the qaulity is exceptional. VERY highly recommended. if I were to name the best quality miniatures I'd ever seen, for any scale/type etc, these guys would be very strong contenders.

Certainly pictures seems to be supporting that possibility :D

Tanks are just amazing and the infantry are great. Don't know how many unique poses there are but the variety is just amazing.

I'm starting to lean very heavily toward GHQ at the moment. Still cheaper than GW for example and if I could afford to buy epic armies I should be able to afford these as well...

(oh and as side note: INTERNET IS WORKING!!! After ONLY 20 weeks of inoperation(after paying for it) it is FINALLY working...About frigging time I would say!

The one complaint I've had about GHQ is their infantry is a bit on the spindly side (so are some of their gun barrels as well). They tend to bend easily. I did hear that they were redoing some of their infantry to address this issue, but I haven't verified this rumor. They are gorgeous though. The detail and accuracy is superb.

I picked up some GHQ armour and agree that it is the most detailed around. Apparently the US army uses it!

On the strength of this, I then picked up GHQ infantry, but found them to be very static. In the end, I changed to H&R (Navwar) WWII infantry, as they are much better and cheaper too. So, I mix them with the GHQ armour and it works fine.

If you do order direct from GHQ, the big issue is that you may be charged additional import tax when it comes into the UK. I picked up a load of CAV minis from Reaper and got hit in the same way - about 30 pounds for a 100 pound order!

ouch? How'd I miss this treatment?  :devil:  :cool:
As for troops, can't comment, I only got tanks and aeroplanes - the latter include brass etching struts (I HAD to go for a biplane!) and should be super fiddley.

Could you tell a bit about how detailed the game gets as far as different units go? For example are there any differences between T-72 and T-80?

Whatabout Leopards? Are the differences like: Leopard 1, Leopard 2 and not worry about like leopard 2A1, 2A2 etc?(this would be acceptable. I just hope they are not lumped together to simple Leopard...).

Me loves tanks so I would like to have SOME differences between them though I don't expect to have differences for every single minor variant of course :D).

Well. Order will be going most likely to Finland(my time in England is nearing to end and I have too much stuff to get to Finland anyway. No point paying postage TWICE. First to England and then to Finland when I move back there  :D ). But I'll check about that first. Tax of that sort will push it back in favour of UK supplier I think!
