Hi! Seems GW isn't doing so well... Now, I would wonder how things might be if SG (and the other parts of the empire, like Black Industries and Warhammer Historical) were properly featured and promoted, instead of treated with disdain... Gary |

"We have not been paying enough attention to the hobbyists. We need to get back to our bread and butter," said Ted Kirby, chairman and chief executive of Games Workshop. A comment that could be interpreted in many ways... hopefully it means not ignoring SG rather than 'our bread and butter is WFB and 40k'. There is a proliferation of companies able to survive these days thanks to the internet. GW needs to realise things are done differently these days, if they don't provide something then customers will get it from somewhere else, and break powerful brand loyalty spending habits: Slightly related, there will be more from Andy on SG next week on the general philosophy about what SG are all about: "I was planning to write a long-winded diatribe on how our games fit into Games Workshop?s gaming universes to accompany this issue, unfortunately, I?ve been stuck in numerous dull meetings all week so I?m having to delay my editorial until early next week." |

And that, I think, is why Andy cant produce as much SG as we would all like (including him) - meetings and diversions. There is a considerable thread about GW profits over on Warseer (surprise!). The common opinion over there is that the blame lies squarely with Mr Kirby. That he doesnt understand the market and has been largely complacent about GWs market share position. I have become tired of reading his regular series of excuses and 'will do better' diatribes. I have yet to see any up-swing in GW, despite this being the third (?) year of reduced profits for the company. Have any other wargame companies had such a troubled few years? |

That would probably be difficult to tell as it seems that most other game companies aren't publically traded. |

Well Boyz, just got W/D 325, I have had sub for 15 or so years. Looks good, no Epic though ... never is ... But the Warmaster Araby army release is all there (very nice, too!) on 2 pgs, about 1/3 is LotRs, a page ad for F/W's AI and a nicely painted, gray Tigershark for that game. And a DAK Camo'd 40K scale Warhound (nice camo!) ... So what's my point ? I don't know how soon G/W will fold or take a major hit, if ever ... but they are giving tacit support to some and ignoring others ... We'll just have to wait and see ... I only do Epic, so as I have said many times before, with DRM & E/W, if G/W's Epic disappears ... Oh well ... |

(Hena @ Jan. 20 2007,05:49) QUOTE It would be nice to see the balace sheet for SG. Too bad there is no such thing (at least I couldn't find any). I have a hunch there is such a thing; most normal companies would recognize it as its own profit-and-loss center, so that they could measure its performance and account for it properly. However, it'd be an internal-use-only document and wouldn't see the light of public scrutiny unless someone on the inside leaked it. Sure would love to see that, though... |

Also, saw in W/D, that at US Games Day, in the Golden Deamon Comp. Epic, Warmaster and Blood Bowl forces can be entered ! Throwing us a bone ... or attempt to show tacit support ? |

Yah, heard the same thing last year and the year before. Did not see a change in attitude or tactics. Did see a price hike though. ![]() I would not look for this to mean they will open their arms to the non-core games. Rather I would expect this to cause an even greater focus on the core games. Course I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. dafrca |

Probably not, Daf ... you are most likely correct ... but again, they are nothing if not fickle, self-serving and confusing ! ![]() |

Throwing us a bone ... or attempt to show tacit support ? Yeah. It's nice that Inquisitor figures can be included in 40K monster category. Seems like a good idea to me. Although there are NO Battle Scene or Duel categories at all. Eh? If you want to do a battle scene it has to be Open? What's that all about? |

Well ... at least they have not totally forgot about games other than 40K & WHFB ! Other than that G/W once again ... lacks logic ?!?! ![]() |

Indeed... If I had to guess, it looks to me that they're trying to focus Golden Demon onto a gaming figure painting contest. Which seems utterly bizarre considering how many of the entrants have no interest in gaming! |

Yes, I've heard that ! My gaming pard, 3rdI, won a DG a few years back, and a lot of guys just paint ! ?However, with the realities of adult life ... we never really have time to game ... But I continue to build my 6mm sci-fi forces based on gaming standard TO&Es ! Just in case !? ![]() ![]() |
