As I'm sure many of you are aware, with my fiancee and her family I'm moving to France where we'll be running our home as a Bed & Breakfast, Holiday Cottages, etc etc.

We originally thought we'd be moving back in October, when we completed the purchase of our new home in France. ?But since then we've been waiting to sell our house here in England.

And what a tale of woes this is becoming ?:glare:

Firstly, our move got delayed at the end of October as the first people who were buying our house pulled out...

Fortunately we were able to go with a family who had also made an offer - but then the sale of their house fell through in November, putting things back another month.

Then the next problem developed: the solicitor representing the people buying our house started making issue of a Deed of Covenant on the garden which is intended to stop the land being sold to property developers and having new houses built on. ?But this solicitor thinks that it's a swindle to make people pay twice for the land. ????

So, for 6 weeks (the period leading up to & after Christmas) our solicitor and the buyer's solicitor kept sending documents back and forth trying to resolve this. ?Each time, the other solicitor would tell ours that she understood the Deed, then a few days later our Solicitor would get a letter from the other saying they still felt the Deed was dodgy and the sale of the house shouldn't go through. ?:glare:

Anyway, the middle of last month it looked like things were going to come together. ?We are ready to move, the people who are buying our house are ready, as is everyone in the chain.

So their solicitor sends a letter to their mortgage lender saying that the sale of the house shouldn't go through because she still believes this Deed is dodgy and a fiddle.

So the mortgage company declines our buyer's mortgage. ?They then have to get another, which takes a few weeks to get in to place.

In the meantime, their solicitor is still holding things up by going back and forth with ours over this Deed; again, saying verbally she understands and is happy with it, then turning round and sending another saying saying she isn't happy with it and the sale of the house shouldn't go through. ?For the love of Crumbcake!

So we are stuck in this kind of limbo, waiting for the solicitors to come to some sort of agreement. ?We've all quit our jobs for almost the last month, and beginning to run low on cash. ?Almost everything is packed, the house is full of boxes. ?Everytime things look close to being sorted out and we can get a moving date, our solicitor gets a load of questions from the other to do with things they'd discussed three months ago!

Then yesterday, it got worse. ?We've been storing most of our boxes of packed stuff in the cottage under our house (it's part of the property, my Finacee's parents used to rent it out).

At some point in the last three nights, someone broke in to it, kicking a hole in the door, and making off with several of our boxes.

This includes around ?700 pounds worth of new Tools and decorating stuff to do out our new home in France and the Bed & Breakfast rooms. ?That is annoying - fortunately we still have the receipts for it all so we can replace it on the insurance.

However, they also made off with at least two boxes of my wargaming stuff ?:(

At least ?250 worth: ?One box contained loads of spare Tyranid parts from two Battleforce box sets - although most were made for a 40k 'Nid army I made last November, there were loads of spare parts and at least 20 Genestealers, all of which I wanted to use for future 40k, Epic & BFG conversions. ?There were also Two unopened Chimera Tanks for my 40k Guard Army.

Fortunately, I've still got the receipts for these and can claim on the insurance.

Really gutting, though, is what was in the other box(es). ?I've spent the last 8-10 months amassing a huge selection of materials to make wargaming boards, scenery & terrain out of as we are planning to offer wargaming facilities from our place in France (holidays for gamers, or tournament/campaign weekends, that sort of thing).

Included in what was stolen were 60+ model trees, lots of plastic-card, foam board, a big box of 40k plastic Jungle Plants; and particularly gutting, virtually all the stuff I was going to use to make Epic/6mm sci-fi terrain. ?This included 4 of the Ruin Sprues, a 40k Manufactorum box-set (to make a titan factory terrain piece out of), and the most stinging loss of all:

Approx. 50 of the Plastic & Card SM 1 & 2 era buildings.

I had big plans for these, being able to make lots of sci-fi city-scapes, but also combining some to make a large Imperial Palace. ?There was a selection of the roofs, too.

Well, I just had to get this off my chest, this is like the final insult on top of the continuous disappointment of our delayed move.

Sorry to whinge, I also felt I needed to explain so that people who are waiting to send me stuff from trades/purchases know what the delay is.

Anyway, thanks for reading my whine. ?Rant over. ?:confuse:

Good grief! That's bad Firestorm. Hope you manage the move soon. Then I'll get my PhD done and come for a holiday at your future B&B with the wife. And I'll bring a small donation of scenery too :)

Suggest make formal complaint about other solicitor to the governing body. Provide proof they keep going back on agreements, discussing same thing over and over etc with no basis, perhaps talk about hidden intentions whatever. No sense in making their life easy. Often make things rough and they quietly slink off to the next poor bugger.

My my that's terrible...

I've moved in to a new place this last week after negotiating on (and eventually getting gazumped on) another place for several months... and I thought that was bad.

Best of luck.

Thanks V - we'd make you feel very welcome if you do come and visit us! :)

Chris, don't worry we are preparing a MASSIVE complaint against this solicitor - but we aren't putting it through yet as we don't want anything else to hold up the completion of the sale.

E&C, the whole moving lark is a nightmare at the best of times... the ironic thing is, we thought it'd take forever to sort out our place in France because of all the permission we needed to get for our B&B etc, and applying for a mortgage with a French bank.  But that all went straight through very smoothly.  Apparently the British system is more complicated... :glare:

Thanks for the good wishes; and Markconz, if you could make it to France it'd be great to see you! :)

The losses are really galling, not just for myself but in terms of the time spent to amass the stuff.  My fiancee's Dad spent sages on eBay looking for cheaper tools & stuff to use, replacing it's not just the cost but also the time and effort searching for the stuff on eBay again.

It's the same with all those old Epic buildings - I'd spent nearly two years getting the selection together, over several eBay lots of 6-10 at a time.

At the same time, I wish I could have seen the face on those morons when they opened one of my boxes, expecting to find antiques and valuable electronic goods - only to be confronted with 50+ N & O scale model fir trees...

And to top it off, I sent the box of spare parts to your French address!

But don't despair. I'll send you my card buildings and some roofs. If you want to look at my Have list in the Trade section, you can claim some stuff from there too.
