Today I had an impromptu game of E: A with a friend who usually plays 40k and has never tried epic. We just grabbed a bunch of figures and put down about 2000 points. We wanted to try out titans so we took one titan choice each. I played Thousand Sons and Stephen played Eldar (as he normally does in 40k). Not meant to be a formal battle report but here are my impressions of the game.

Biel-Tan:

Wraithgate
Avatar
Autarch
Aspect warhost, exarch
Guardian warhost, 2 wraithguard
Guardian warhost, 2 wraithguard
Falcon troupe
Night Spinner troupe
Revenants

Thousand Sons: (using 2.0 list)

Thousand Sons retinue
Thousand Sons retinue
4 Silver Towers
4 Predators
Reaver titan

Since this was S's first game and my second (first with TSons), we used the standard rules, except that spirit stones were dropped.

Setup

I set up the towers and a tsons retinue on my right behind a hill, the other tsons retinue, predators and titan on my left in the city.

Stephen had his Night Spinners set up out of sight,
behind a hill supporting the revenants. Falcons took the center of the board. The aspect host and one guardian host took up the other flank, the remaining guardian host was off board in the webway.

Turn 1:

TSons won initiative (as they did for all 3 turns).
Predators put two BM's on the revenants but this was the only hurt they took all game. In return the revenants on sustain wiped out the predators. I had given the towers sustain orders but misjudged range, so they were not able to do much agains the revenants. Tsons all doubled since they had nothing to shoot with. The falcons moved and placed some markers on a tsons retinue but were then broken by the reaver, night spinners failed to kill any tsons but placed a few bm's. Eldar footsloggers doubled.

In the end phase the falcons failed to rally.

Turn 2:

This time I advanced the towers fully into range of the revenants but rolled abysmally for hits. Placed a bm but little else. Return fire from the revs wiped out all but one tower, breaking the unit. Night spinners broke the tsons unit. Reaver advanced and opened up on the aspect host, killing a few stands but not enough to break. Guardian warhost doubled towards the Reaver and Tsons, who assaulted. With support from the reaver the TSons won the assault and the eldar withdrew. Aspect warhost moved up in preparation for an assault next turn.

In the end phase, all broken units rallied except the lone tower.

Turn 3:

TSons won the initiative again. Eldar summoned the avatar to the assistance of the aspect host, but to no avail, as the Reaver was activated first and broke the host. In response the avatar assaulted the TSons retinue but was defeated, taking two wounds in the process. Both being fearless units we decided that the avatar and Tsons would stay locked in combat.
On the other side of the board the other Guardian host popped out of the webway into the waiting arms of the remaining TSons retinue. Casualties were inflicted on both sides but with the help of the revenants the eldar won the assault even though they were unable to dislodge the fearless Tsons. Finally the now-rallied Falcons swooped on the TSons blitzkrieg objective, adding insult to injury by taking potshots at the Reaver as they went by. Victory to the Eldar.

This was a really fun game for me, which went slowly because neither of us knew the rules very well.
The Eldar used their speed and firepower to good advantage, with sustained Revenants and falcons to secure objectives. The night spinners acquitted themselves well but had trouble with the TSons reinforced armour.

I found the TSons retinues, while slow, to be very resilient and impossible to dislodge. They have to be wiped out to a stand. The Reaver was a terror, in spite of my bad rolling, and did more damage than everything else combined. The towers have potential to put out a lot of hurt but did nothing in this game, and completely fell apart under fire. I'd still use them but be more careful next time.
