I've heard a few rave about Hammer's Slammers, here and on other forums. So I have to ask: beyond "google it, you lazy bum!", can anyone provide information for a tragic figure who doesn't know the first thing about them? |

When Legion 4 gets to this he will write a book and your love it... ![]() From the relative nobz on the subject. Hammer's Slammers is an elite mercanary Armored Regiment. ? Is is based on books written by David Drake. ?Only having read the first few they can be described as hard sci-fi. ?Not fancy tech, just real soldiers stories in the distant furture. The main combat equipment of the unit is in essence hover tanks. ?They ride on a curtain of air generated by massive blowers in the tanks. ?There are main battlettanks, APCs, recon vehicles, artillery. The main type of gun from infabtry and main battle guns in the tanks is a called a power gun, they come in many sizes. I'll let legion ?explain that one. But in the stories the tech is not as important as the soldiers even though Hammer's Slammers is one of the best equiped units in the background. ? Wikipedia background I hoped that helped. ?Now Legion will provide all the hard core details |

Some of the books are available for free online from Baen books. Specifically the section for David Drake. The Tank Lords and Paying the Piper are Slammer's books. They are also usually available at second hand bookshops as well. Another good series is Falkenberg's Legion by Jerry Pournelle. Several of those books are available in The Prince anthology (which in turn is available from the Honorverse CD, also available for free.) Hopefully that will get you prepped for L4. ![]() |
