Not that I didn't know this already, but yesterday I got a poignant reminder after finishing my first read of "The three stigmata of Palmer Eldritch".

I have not read that one, but I have looked at a few others. Anything about the Wub are fantastic, and very funny, as is the 'Mr Beaver' book (!) - cant remember the exact title. The original to Total Recall (We Can Remeber It For You Wholesale) is an excellent short piece, and with a total twist in the ending compared to the film. Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep is also very different from Blade Runner (although in this case I prefer the movie).

I have yet to read Scanner Darkly, although now the movie is out over here I am very much looking forward to the DVD of it.

Add Running Man, Minority Report and others to the list and I wonder if any other author has had so many stories made into films!

Hmmmm - ashamed to say I'd never heard of either book or author. Must investigate...

Later...

Wikipedia helped a bit. I lecture on ceramics, so I guess I should investigate further.

Add Running Man,

That was Stephen King.

Correct!   Written by King under the Richard Bachman name, along with a few other good stories, at least in my opinion.  :)

I?ve got me a big book of five of his stories to read.  Already read a few and loved them.  I guess I should read A Scanner Darkly before I see the film.

"Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep ?" and "Bladerunner"... ?

I read the book and saw the movie and liked them both... but both were very different. I agree with C/S!

And IIRC, JR Minis makes a model in 6mm of the Tyrell Corps. HQ? ?:D

Hi Guys,

I had thought that Dick wrote "The Puppet Masters," but that was Heinlein.

He did write "THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE," which was being discussed for a live-action film and has already been made into an anime film in Japan. I remember reading about it awhile back although I never saw the anime film.

Shabbat Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

I guess it is good for Philip K. Dick that we all do not think alike.

I think his stuff is mediocre at best. I am glad the couple of movies I have seen were only loosely based on his stories. I find he does not reach me and for the most part spends too much time trying to get me to see what was evident two paragraphs earlier.

I can think of a lot of people?s work that I think is better.

Oh well, glad he touched you though.

All of his books make you think, I guess that is why I like them all so much.  I also have the meter (well probably a bit more!) of his books.

I started with his series of short stories (there are five books) which I highly recommend as a starting point.  Then I progressed into his novels and other stories.

A pretty twisted genius but a genius all the same, I've not read all nor do I own that many but I've 'enjoyed' (not really the right word ) those that I have.

Great way of describing him!

A Scanner Darkly (the book) will really make you worry about your conceptions of reality!
