Howdy, folks!

We've got a tournament in the works and there is some discussion as to what armies to bring.  I posed this over at Specialist-Games, but definitely would like feedback from the EpiComm loyalists.

What army lists should be allowed?  Which ones shouldn't?

Based largely on Greg Lane's advise, I've got
SM, IG, Eldar (Biel Tan), Ork, Siege Masters, Ferals, LatD, and Black Legion.

There are some people who want to bring AMTL - how well is this list balanced?  Is it ready for tournament play?

Same question for Tau, Necron, Tyranid, Demiurg :p , etc.

Obviously there are going to be some differences in opinion, but if there is a resounding yea or nay on a particular list, it would be good to know.

Thanks in advance.

Don't forget OGBM!   :alien:   I'd say it's more ready than AMTL at least, though I've been using the 1.7 version and it's running at about a 50/50 win/loss.

The current Tyranid list (7.1) certainly doesn't seem to be overpowered in Tournament play and Tau should be good to go as well.

The Necron list was just updated this week with some minor changes and there are a few more to come as well.  I've been playing a lot of playtest games with the Necrons and they've been losing more than winning... so, does that mean they're okay to bring?  *laugh*

The real question is how safe to you want to go?

Once you deside that then the list of lists will become obvious.

Basic idea is to have fun. Not bicker over lists :D.

That's my thought, too.    As far as E:A is concerned, I'm a newbie. I've only played a few training scenarios. So, I'm probably going slaughtered anyway.  :D  If the ATML list is balanced against it, I'm not worried.  :(8:

My biggest concern is AMTL just because I have never played against it.  ePilgrim almost choked on his sandwich when I told him I wanted to bring it, but -quite frankly- he's never played against it either.  :80:

I really don't want to be too restrictive since we're going to have a small turn-out (most likely) and there are some people who may not have the official 6 lists.

Have all the lists - but reserve the right to veto a selection and  insist on something different.

All the experimental lists bar the L&D are flawed, or at least have game desestating combos, but these are all now 'extreme' lists. Examples are Chaos with 4 decimators and 3 Ferals, AMTL with a reaver backed up with warhounds, warhounds etc etc and some Hydra, etc.

Reserving the right to veto a cheesy list should encourage 'good' armies to be brought and allow all the experimental lists to be brought.

The problem with this is it is way to subjective.

What one person says is cheesy anoth may think is OK.

One need only look at the thread here regarding the IG army lists. Some of the lists posted as "cheesy" I thought were not a big deal and would have played against and felt just fine.

If you restrict a list, it is gone. If you allow it, you need to allow it.

Just my .02

Okay, here is what I was thinking initially.  Funny that there are more options than players...  ???  :80:   Any comments to the positive or negative?
? Eldar (Biel-Tan)
? Feral Orks
? Imperial Guard
? IG, Siege Masters
? Orks
? Space Marines
? AMTL v2.0
? Black Legion v3.7
? L & t D, v3.4
? Necron v4.1
? OGBM v1.6
? Tau v4.4
? Tyranid v7.1

Looks good!  I'd even suggest allowing Eldar (Alaitoc) as a possibility as it's a balanced variation on Biel-Tan.

I'm assuming you just missed White Scars as they are an official list.

I mostly agree with Greg.  I might add Ulthwe Eldar.  Necron, Tau, Nid and the WE-based lists are still too dicey for my taste.

Sorry I meant for the experimental lists only.
And yes its subjective, that why you have a head ref/organiser in a tourny and they have final say.

All the official list should be allowed as they, are, well official :)
I would suggest you use the 'revised' siege list I posted a while back as the army is one you can 'unintentionally' powergame in that the basic core is quite strong.

As to the rest the WE lists can also be abused without realising it, never mind intentionally.

I include in that the BL list as you can play a powerful WE army with chaos marine auxilaries.

The L&D is about as good as its gonna get. The only vaguely abusive list we could manage was lots of defilier rt with an infantry horde. Can however be countered a fair bit.

Can't comment on Necrons and Nids (though if anyone has built a necron army they should be allowed to use it!).

Tau have some very balanced parts and others that question marks hang over. I'd risk letting them in though because the models just look so good!

Are you considering to use any of the experimental rules? If so let people know before they sign up!

OK, That I could live with.  :D

I thought you ment any list. I just have an issue there because there are those who still think the Death Strike or the Avitar should not be allowed, for examples.

But if you mean only lists made from the Experiamental lists, then that may be less an issue.

You are correct - it was an oversight.

Yeah, some of the WE lists might be a bit too heavy handed, but I know Dwarf Supreme is itching to play his AMTL, so how can I deny him?
:p
