I've been reminiscing recently over the fantastic battles I use to have with my armies when I was younger.
So my question to you is what is your favourite moment from Epic? Have you made an outrageous saving throw or pulled off a amazing tactical counter attack?

Ok I'll kick it off -
IG / Marine / Squat Vs IG / Marine / Squat 20,000 points.
Two leviathans (one IG and one Squat) approaching down the dead centre of the board. One of our house rules was over lapping void shields so these things looked mean and well protected.
I have one option left at the end of first fire and that is a vortex missile on my one titan that hasn't fired. This is turn 4 (I think) so I'm getting desperate as they are almost on top of me.
I pick out the barrage template and place it over the leviathans, will it scatter....
No it doesn't, whewww, very lucky on that one. So it hits and takes them both out. You can hear the groan of my opponents down the road..
In the IG leviathan the player had kept back a whole veteran marine company and in the Squat leviathan there was a complete Squat brotherhood...
I laughed so much I almost cried and the VP's from that one hit gave me the victory in the end.

Well a hilarious moment was in TL when some Grotz took down an Imperator titan.
The Imperator had wiped out most of the clan the Grotz belonged to. However as the clan was still on assault orders the Grotz hurled themselves at the titan and in a series of ridiculously unlucky dice rolls managed to rip of it's leg! Although the Titan had been damaged before the attack we both had a great chuckle at the thought of a swarm of rabid snotlings swarming up the leg of the (rather surprised) titan. Imagine how the Princeps would have to explain himself afterwards: "uhm... well... They were just so tiny for god sake!" I lost the battle (as usual) but it really was an enjoyable moment.
Another great moment was a detachment of Terminators, well dug in who managed to hold off 3 times as many points worth of Orks for two turns. That was great value for the money for sure!

Wiring being bitten through and hydro fluid being sprayed every where!

I dont know about best, but my funniest moment was the otherday when my marines took on my friends dark angel army. He had put all three of his objectives close to each other, I set up a mounted tactical company behind them ready to rush forwards with a skirmish screen of land speeders protecting them.
Turn one he teleports terminators onte the objectives, catches the land speeders in a crossfire and wipes them out in one volley from the termies. I run to try and save my tacticals and lose one detachment in its entirety in a huge crossfire (they were unmounted too!). I turn my reaver on to the termies, and fail to kill a single one!
Then I realise hes made (what I though was...) a fatal mistake- his devastator detachment was intermingeled with a tactical detachment and I had 2 assault detachments waiting in a thunderhawk with a chaplain. Ok, so he has a few hunters and thunderbolts on CAP, but they've never been that good against my Ork landa. I decide to try and turn the tide of battle... In hurtles the thunderhawk, the flak hits it, all but 2 saves fail and it blows up with all on board. Sweet...
End of turn one, my losses: 1100 out of 2500 points blown up. His losses- a land speeder. Count it, one land speeder! So i decided to save face and give up there and then.
The lesson learned- next time play Orks!

Baptism of fire is one way of putting it Im too used to playing orks where you tend to just go straight for the throat, relying on the survivability of the mobz to carry you through. Now ill need to learn tactics darn it
Cheers!

Tense final of an SM2 era tournament. My Eldar against the equally undefeated Tyranid player. His Hierophant company are running amok on my midfield, denying me three objectives. Avatar walks up to the middle 'phant, smacks him upside the head, criticals and winds up doing IIRC 14 wounds single handedly. Tyranid player only regens 2 of them in the end phase and the bug dies.
The inspired Eldar take the day.

Here's one of my most memorable moments, from SM2 era:
I was playing Marines, with a Warlord battlegroup supporting, against Eldar. The first shot I took was one of my Warlords firing at one of my opponent's Phantoms. I scored a hit, but I figured he would make the holo save, becuase he usually does. Nope, holo save failed. Off to hit location template. Wing targetted, didn't scatter. Yay! Wing save, failed. Cool. Rolled for critical damage. Wing blown clean off! So, no more holo field for that Phantom and we all now how long Eldar titans survive without their holo fields. By the end of the turn that Phantom was a pile of wreckage.

Played a game of Tyranids vs Imperial a few months after the release of Titan Legions. I think it was when the Tyranids were first introduced in SM2. I'd gone with a friend (Jay) to see him play against one of his friends (Ken). They were both mainly WH40K players and only really collected Epic scale not really played it. My mate Jay took me as at the time i was a walking encyclopedia in regards to the rules of SM2. Myself and my friend Mark played each other regularly in Epic scale and we'd memorised all the rules in order to try an gain an advantage. Anyhow Jay took me to this Ken blokes place as he had just bought a load of the new Tyranids stuff and wanted to see how it performed. Ken had assembled an Imperial army of mainly Knights and Imperial SHT's and other assorted armour. As i recall he didn't have much infantry but boasted that he'd annihilate the Tyranids with the firepower. Half way through the first turn Jay just said to me to take over and he'd watch the outcome.
I remember a particular incident when Ken had moved a lot of his vehicles forward one of his Baneblades was surrounded by Termagants which engaged it in close combat. He laughed and said you need a six to even hit me so why bother. Of course there were about 8 stands in contact so i rolled 8 dice and managed to get 3 sixes. He still laughed though cos he said he only needed a 2+ save. Yeh but you've got to roll 3 dice. Of course one of them turned out to be a 1. Soon got rid of his smirk. I remember the game lasted about 3 turns before he said "it's getting a bit late, maybe we should finish up and call it a draw. Needless to say most of his armour had been wiped out by hordes of tyranid infantry by this time and i was on the verge of winning. It was a well known tactic from Ken though whether he was playing WH40K, Fantasy battle, Battletech or any other wargame. Start to get annihilated then make up an excuse to stop the game early and claim a draw as the game wasn't able to be finished!!
