Yep played it years ago. Kinda fun - especially the first few missions.

I love that game!  Played it dozens of times, before I upgraded to XP and couldn't play it on the new operating system.  :(

I have to say that the cutscenes are the best of any GW computer or console game out there, and the music was pretty good, too.  I sure wish they would revamp and update it, but since GW is doing its absolute best to kill off Epic, that probably won't happen.

The weaknesses:  stupid AI, only two races, and a sense of repetitive gameplay.  Honestly, though, it was Final Liberation that led me to reconsider minis gaming as a hobby (having dropped it for about 10 years).

Hi Guys,

I really loved that game... fooled around with it for ages.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Same here, I got back into epic after playing that game.

Stupid AI is par for the course with computer gaming unfortunately (except maybe chess which has a huge amount of AI development) - gotta play online or switch to tabletop to get decent opposition.

Yeah I've got final liberation as well. great game. the campaign idea was great although you could just wait till you had maximum point values and buy loads of warlords.

we had comps to see who could complete it the quickest. great fun.

Yeah I played it a few years ago and enjoyed it. Then packed it away. I've just "found" it again and I'm playing away at it. Is there any way of unlocking the other races that are featured in the backround part? Or is there anyway of playing it online against one of you? :)

No way of unlocking the races, they were there for an expansion that never came. Some work was progressing on new units etc, but I imagine that will have died now.

In my experience the online and multiplayer system was hopelessy buggy and unplayable.

I figured that was the case Markconz :( ah well. After reading the other thread on Titans I decided to put together a game with mainly titans in it. Fun stuff. :)
Now I'm getting the itch to play some real games. Must be at least 6 years since I've had one! Anyone in Ireland? :D

I got it from ebay,
then took a while before I took the time to set up a win 98 box, played it 30 minutes, liked the cut scenes and the music ?(was it d-rok or something?) then put it away, could'nt stand the ui.

Has anybody thought of doing an Epic mod for battlefront's game (Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin)?
not even sure it would be a good idea...I wish we could have a Dawn of War/Winter Assault for Epic scale, not rts but turn based. the depth and strategy of CMBB with the spectacular graphics ?of DoW/WA...

Well Ireland is but a short distance from England :)

Try some of the various player locators floating around.

you can actually download this game from the underdogs (use google to find it).  Its quit fun, very funny to launch a whole battery of warp missiles at a gargant.

I think that it would work very well based on the Age of Empires engine. Not the new 3D versions, the old AOE and Age of Conquerers. I suggested this to GW once and got the standard brush off as DOW was in the pipeline. It could still be done, its up to them.

If only GW listened to its fans

If that was the case, I'd be out buying an Epic:A boxed starter set, with two complete armies, terrain, dice, rules, etc.!
