On April first and second, the Chicago Battle Bunker is having its first annual Epic Tournament. Jervis Johnson is rumored to be attending.
It will be a 5k tournament, and unofficial armies will be allowed. As long as there is a GT list for your army, it will be playable. Unclear on whether there will be a cost, will wander over and check (isn't it great to live 3 min from the soon to be largest Bunker in the US?). *edit* It's free!! *end*
I hope we can get a large enough turnout to convince them to make Epic a larger art of their schedule ,but thats just me...

Ghost | I think I can say with some certainty that it's not just you. We all wish Epic was a larger part. I've heard that LotR will be dumped as the third core game and GW would like to have three core games. Maybe Epic will be it.

I can't see Epic as a core game. The tiny-scale games don't lend themselves to the kind of churn that the larger scale games do. At least, there are fewer dimensions.
For one thing, per-model variability is necessarily fuzzed out in the rules, and variability for modelling's sake doesn't drive sales in the way that new special characters with special abilities do.
Perhaps if they changed the armies to go the way of Siegemasters, who buy terrain as part of their army list, and started selling a ton of army-specific terrain pieces with novel abilities. Special wraithgates, bunkers, defense lasers, etc.
Or support assets that would never show up in skirmish-scale games, such as war engine repair facilities, communications vehicles, etc.

I don't see Epic becoming a core game, either. But I can dream, can't I?
