Posted on Specialist Games forum as well.

Looking to get some feedback on a possible Harelquin Army.  Not sure if it would be worthy of being an actual list, but would instead be something fun to play.

I am drawing heavily on Sotec's list, which I think is quite well done.
For units, I was considering the following:
Harlequins
Jetbikes
Mimes
Jesters (character)
Solitaire
Shadowseer (character)
Warlock (character)
Great Harlequin (character)
Venom (transport)
Raider (transport)

Anything like a tank I just don't see them having, but I could be wrong.  Heck, the Raider might be way out there, but I felt like throwing in something large.

My knowledge of the fiction is virtually non-existent, however.  Is there anything else that might be out there?  Different types of jetbikes? Other infantry or characters?

On a related note, others had voiced a concern that there just aren't enough Harlequins 'out there' to make an army.  Anyone have an idea as to how many Harlequins there actually are? Dozens?  Hundreds?  Thousands?

Hi!

Perhaps as a special unit for the eldar? Not a separate army?

Yep, again, I agree with "P" !  Just like in SM2 & E40K, a special unit, not a separate army ... That's the way we do it ... We have the models !   :;):

For the Eldar AND Dark Eldar - see the 40K Fluff.

Hmmm.  It seems most people have the same idea - no Harli Army.  :(  As for a supplement, Sotec's List already covers that well, so I see no need to expand on it.

My thinking on it was not a GT type thing that would be played by everyone, more of a fun thing to put together.  I had read something online about how the number of Harlequins were steadily increasing and that gave me the idea.  I also figured there had to be places where the Harlequins (and only Harlequins) came together, such as guarding the Black Library, special battles, or other missions.

I will probably continue to model out the army (already 1/2 way through) if anyone wants a look-see afterwards, let me know.

Folks may well have already seen it, but I thought I would add a link in to my own attempt at a Harley list:

Harlequin Army List

Yes, its Harleys as a complete army, partly because I had the figures to do it, and partly because I really like Harlequins. Ive played around a dozen games with it, and not had any major problems, but it probably shouldnt be taken too seriously :D ?If you are really bored tho' the webway stuff is a lot of fun as your units can literally leap around the battlefield like mad.

Realistically, no, there probably arent normally enough in any one place to make a 3k army, but its still fun to use one, and not totally impossible. In theory the list above works as an allied force too, although thats something I havent playtested with it ???

EDIT: OK, its been around 4 months since I looked at that document, and there arent half a lot of errors in it    Ah well, it gives the gist I think...

Ahh, Reaversbane.  I share your love for the Harlequins and the pain of not being able to play them...

I will look over your list since there are some cool ideas in there.  See what I can mesh with what I am putting together, and then email you.  You can tell me what you think.  Good enough?

I think a big concern is that a Harlequin army will be way too powerful, but my belief is that is problem can be countered by playtesting and careful point balancing.

Thanks for your comments!

Im certainly willing to natter about them over email, I hope you find my list useful.

I think it should be possible to balance them, like any other list, the difficulty you do have is actually making them 'feel' like Harlequins when they play. The main problem I had with my list was the little blighters had a high rate of attrition, and engagements (which they do usually win mind, assuming they get base-to-base) tended to seriously deplete their numbers. Even going all out with gates and carefully picking your fights, a well dug-in opponent (like Guard :p ) causes problems. That may however be down to me being a very aggressive player ???

Ahem. I'll quit rambling... it would be cool to see some stuff on Harley's, you might even get me playing with them again (along with putting the finishing touches to my army of them :D ).

Very cool.  I will email you when I get the list together.  Many people have expressed that the Harlequins are "not an army".  So any list I finally put together may include some conversions I am making (epic scale Raiders & Venoms).   The Venoms will be relatively easy to produce -Vypers plus some bits- but the Raiders are tough to convert (at least for me).  I want them to look distinct from an Eldar tank, have that flying wicker basket feel to it, but still be worth placing in the army.
These small things might round out the army enough to give them a fighting chance while maintaining a Harlequin feel.
I'll be sure to send you the pictures of the conversions as well (once their completed).
