Played a few 20 minute games of 1000 points lately with my new IG army against Orks. But i've lost all matches.
The problem is that I don't find the Imperial Gaurd all that cheap. I mean, I had a tank company and a Mechanized Infantry company against 4 ork units and I get smoked. 4 activations vs my 2. My Tank Co. are supressed before I get any shots off. I can't seem with 1000 points to get any flexability out of the Imperial Gaurd army. I think i'd rather use 2 SM tactical units and a Predator or Landraider Detachment against the orks. With 1000 pts I can get 3 strong Ultra Marine detchments or 2 weak IG units, the only benefit to the IG is the 250 pt Infantry unit is 13 stands (13 Blast markers). But for 50 more points I can get 6 SM stands (12 Blast markers) and much better save, CC and FF values, with higher strategy rating and better Iniative.
What can I do with my beloved IG in regards to a 1000 point match. Right now the Super-human SM's are a MUCH better choice. Whats the use of 40 dice rolls with your Leman Russ tanks if they can actualy use them before they are CC assaulted by 2 small warbands.
