hi all, it's the time of year when I start planning my New Year Resolutions, and so far I've got this far: 1 - work loads on my PhD 2 - start the roof garden project 3 - start doing some joging or something at least once a week
But of more interest to you would be the list of stuff I'm resolving to work on (and I fervently hope no-one can pull my NYRs for last year out of the ethereal hat for comparison):
1 - clear the workspace of loads of unfinished models - especially Gargant Deffsta 2 - aim for a 3000 point painted Epic Eldar army (this is Doc's holidays (Doc Holiday's?!) challenge) 3 - paint the 40K Tyranid FW Spore Chimney 4 - complete the LOTR Mumak 5 - start my Warmaster Undead army paintwork 6 - paint a complete Imperial fleet for BFG 7 - complete a 1500pt 40K Tyranid army (all models there, converion work and paint left) 8 - complete a 2000 point WHFB Empire army (all models there, construction and paintwork to be completed) 9 - sporadic work on odds and ends for the 3rd army (Legio Machinator, AdMech Squatarii, IG, Angels of Fire SMs, Imperial Auxilia and support stuff) 10 - build an Epic Batwing 11 - build some Epic terrain 12 - assemble and paint a Slaaneshi Man O'War fleet (all models there) 13 - build the Krawla 14 - build the Vox Populi 15 - start the Epic L&D army work 16 - start work on CLASSIFIED - POTENTIAL ENTRIES FOR BFG COMPETITION 17 - start work on CLASSIFIED - POTENTIAL ENTRIES FOR 2005 EPIC COMPETITION 18 - Start an Inquisitor warband
Oh gods, I'm ambitious..... but at least this involves no new purchases other than 3 Inquisitor models! ? I've also streamlined my 'permitted purchasing' list. I am therefore only going to buy (help!): (1) Specialist Games current and past products; including unsupported games such as Man O'War and Gorkamorka (2) WH40K/WHFB rulebooks of interest and White Dwarf (3) WHFB - Chaos Dwarfs (old style), Brettonians to finish off a 2000pt army (4) WH40K - Tau (in order top complete a 2000point army) and any Ad-Mech related models (including SM Techs, Enginseers etc.) (5) Investigation of English Civil War troops. (6) Epic Terrain (7) Epic Inner Circle project stuff (8) paints, glue, flock, cat litter, etc.
Phew! Tall order! ?

ahhhhh, I never make resolutions, they always get broken Looks like a wonderful year ahead Vanvlak, enjoy My only concessions to 'resolution' (which would happen regardless) is to get hold of the new Swordwind stuff and to try and find someone to give me a game.

Can't remember my new years resolutions from last year but I'm pretty sure I didn't live up to them
New years resolutions for 2005 include:
- Finish Epic Cityfight Terrain - Finish Epic Imperial Guard infantry - Finish Ultramarines (Only 20 tactical, 20 Devastator, 20 Mole Mortars, a bunch of Rhinos, Land Raiders and command stands to go...) - Not to buy too many Feral Orks - Only buy Revenant, Engines of Vaul and a few Falcons once Swordwind is released (I allready have way too much unpainted Eldar...) - Finish Epic Grey Knights - Finish Epic Khorne army - Begin Epic Black Legion and Cultists. - Finish BFG Imperial and Chaos fleets. - Re-work the Epic Lounge once I get better at doing web stuff - Learning how to do Flash - Writing some articles for Incoming! - Decide whether I should start a new study, go travelling or get a job once I graduate this summmer... (decisions, decisions) - Get the feral Ork problem in by kitchen under control....
...Hmmm... I say "Finish" an awfull lot of times don't I? Guess I'm a bit too optimistic... not that I have anything against the finish (sorry Mojarn) or... wait... erh bugger now I've confused myself... *Goes to rest head for an hour or two*
Cheers!

Mine are quite simple:
A: Paint stuff (anything) B: Buy less stuff (shouldn't be too bad, no new stuff in the works that I'm aware of that interests me) C: Expand my website D: Do well in Uni
In roughly that priority

Me? I'm studying CompSci, in my second year.
As for old stuff, I'm going to add to my BFG fleet, but that is generally quick 'n' easy to paint, so I'm not so worried
Just need a paint scheme for SM vessels to tie them in with the rest of the fleet.

Graphic Design. ...Well more or less; it's a realtively short study (only two years) with focus on the design process, communications and management. I could have hoped for more emphasis on actual graphic skills (though we do have a bunch of that) so I'm thinking about building some more on top of this study once I've finished (and in the mean time it is allways possible to do some freelance stuff to supplement the income).
Cheers!

Ah, interesting. I'm lecturing+doing a PhD in materials science and engineering - sigh - still a student at 37! Oh well, my choice... ? How long is the compsci, Dysartes? The nearest equivalent would be 4 years here, I'd guess. WMN - sounds like good stuff - and potentially highly remunerative too.

Actually, let me add "C, part b: Produce articles for Incoming!"
In answer to your question, vanvlak, it could be 3 or 4 years total, depending on this year - I get a good enough average, and I'm on a 4 year Masters course; I don't, then I'm on a 3 year Bachelor's.

I did consider for a while to go to Uni. Perhaps studying history or architecture. Only problem is, that I haven't got high enough math levels (though I suppose I could take those as a supplementary course). Still it would be nice to have more years to really bury yourself in the study.
Cheers!

Good luck Dysartes.

-Do well at uni (I got first class honours in neuroscience this year, and need to do just as well or better this year on my Masters or PhD 1st year!) BTW I'm glad I'm not the only 30+ year old at uni Vanvlak, I turn 31 in April! Good luck everyone else who is studying. -Play lots of games! 40k and epic. -Make proper transportable army boxes for my epic eldar, epic guard, epic marines, and DBM hellenistics. -Paint a few more epic marines and guard!

nearly, spelt with two 'l's
But are you going to paint the 3000pts in between christmas and new year, i think i have given up on that plan for my IG. I am gonna try for painting my IG before the end of jan. And try and do the article on converting my landraiders for Incoming between chrimbo and NY.
My new year resolutions will be
*start doing some exercise *stay away from ebay *paint epic IG *stay away from ebay *get my 5star kayaking award *stay away from ebay *start making a dent in the credit card repayment department *stay away from ebay *dont buy anymore models unto the ones i have (the ones that will more than likely see a game) are painted
and finally STAY AWAY FROM EBAY
lol, like i will be able to do them all. ?
- sigh - still a student at 37! |
Vanvlak, you lucky %$?*&^@+=#~!!!!! bar steward.
I wish i was doing a phd now, only reason i want one is so i could be Doc Holliday, but any way...
been in 'proper' work for a while now and i truely regret f#$?%+g uni off to start earning money. I am just as skint now as i was when i was a student - and no its not cos i started buying more models to paint. Honestly it isnt!!
And to make matters worse some of my friends still are at uni, taunting me, telling me about wild nights out and not getting up till the afternoon the next day etc etc...
lol anyone think i'm jealous? ?
