So,round about mid-june I bid on a package lot of "metal toy soldiers" on eBay;s UK site.

One lousy and hideously blurry pic accompanied with the description of "assorted miniatures for that dungeons and dragons game my son no longer plays now that he's grown up".

I *thought* I saw some epic that looked tempting so I bid it to and won at 25 GBP.

It's finally shown up today and in amongst the older grenadier type and what not fantasy figs there was the following:

Capitol Imperialis
Hellbore Mole
beetleback warlord
reaver
x8 Termites
x6 Leman Russ Demolishers
x3 Baneblades
x3 Shadowswords
X3 Stormblades
x3 Stomhammers
x4 Marauders

and a couple of actually fairly nicely painted attilan roughrider and IG assault troop detachments.

:p  :D

I feel like I've just won the lotto.

*heehee*

Hi!

Congrats! This is definitely a primarch worthy purchase!

Now you now how I felt those many times I picked up similar "bargain"boxes through my many travels to old game stores.

There are still bargains to be had if you know where to look.

Holy cow! What a deal! Congrats, H! :D To think, you might be able to get 25 pounds sterling on ebay for the CI itself.

Oh yeah and that comment, "miniatures for that dungeons and dragons game my son no longer plays now that he's grown up", I think I've been insulted. ?:p ?I still play D&D, does that mean I'm not grown up or that I shouldn't be playing it since I am grown up? ???

I have to admit that I was a bit apprehensive about leaving the house this morning. I'm a firm believer in the theory that "one good turn deserves a boot in the groin" and as such was a bit worried about getting hit by a bus on the way to work this morning given yesterday's windfall.

I'm still smiling though. Hehe...

As well:

At the risk of totally incriminating myself here as to the level of "Nrrd prestige class" I have... just before I quit my sales and purchasing job and got out of "the game industry" for good in 2000 I actually had a couple of interviews with Wizard's of the Coast for the "Tabletop Games Business Manager" position.

In other words I would have been the manager responsible for setting price point, print run quantities yatta yatta yatta for all WotC's 3rd Ed D&D products.

The part that killed it was they didn't want the trouble of trying to bring a Canadian across the border. And, in total hindsight, given the staff turnover level the company has had since it was acquired by Hasbro I was probably lucky it worked out that way.

So... next time I throw a little frothing post at GW's latest financial "explanations" thats the why and wherefore of it.
