From the Newspaper:

At 81, Fola Coats, of Magnolia Arkansas, might seem a little old to join the US Navy. But the great-grandmother recently received a letter inviting her to enlist in the Seabees of the Naval Reserve.

"I laughed when I got the letter," she said. "I told my family, I can't wait to get my uniform." Coats's husband served in World War II and two of her sons were in Vietnam.

"I guess they figured we were a great military family," she said.

"The worst part of all of this is I don't even like water. I won't even go swimming."

:D Go US Navy!

I love when these kinds of stories come out.

You remember the one where they US Government sent a reminder note to a cat that it needed to send in it's Draft Registration? Seems two smart boys were registering extra names at the local ice cream joint?s Birthday Club. They would get extra Free Ice Cream Certificates that way. Well the Government seems to have bought some lists and used them to compare to the registration roles. Sent notes out to those not on the roles.

I love our government, fools that they are.

You mean like the 20 million dollar train station they built up in Alaska on a line that has not been used in more then 15 years?

Or the tires our Marines were buying and stocking across this great nation even though they had given up any vehicles that used that size almost 10 years earlier?

Or the....  :L

Yep, like I said: I love my government, fools that they are.

Let's not forget the billions of dollars spent (make that squandered) on the B-1.  :p  Desert Storm, they flew how many sorties?? Oh yeah, NONE!  :p  And the plane it was meant to replace will outlive it!

Yes, the US Gov't is known for that kind of stuff ... believe me, I know...  However, the B-1 is/was flying successful missions in the ME/SW Asia... well at least it was not a complete waste ...

Hi!

Sorta like the millions squandered on that super cannon they ditched. The US government has always spent money on weapons it then never used or fully developed.

But think on the flipside, such "squandering" has led to the use of weapons and tactics that make the US military pretty formidable.

Imagine if they didnt spend the money on stealth.....

Money on R&D is seldom wasted.  Even if the original design isnt adopted or as successful as hoped, much is learnt that is put into new projects, not all of them military

Show me a government that isn't and I'll show a government that is not run by humans.  :(

I do not mind the R&D or even money spent on weapons that are not needed later on.

I hate the money spent on stupid things that can not have any real value at all. For example, they gave a man in Texas $400,00o grant money for the history of little leage in his city. Give me a break, it was not need at that price.

Buy his book for a library at $15, fine.

True Pork Spending is what bugs me.
