A few weeks ago, I managed to find a used copy of Kotor for cheap in a game shop, so I took the chance and bought it. I couldn't guess it at the time, but I fell thoroughly in love with the game, which now sits at the top spot of my all-time favorites.
Having completed the game, I obviously started looking for its sequel. However, I've read rather bad things on the official Obsidian forum. Basically, it seems the game is "incomplete": there were many plot seeds, nearly completed with voice acting and movie sequences already in place (and inserted in the CDs!), which got dropped at the last moment to allow for a Christmas release. As a consequence, the game falls short in his last half since the plot basically gets "dropped" to allow for a rushed ending. There's been some major complaints about it, and I understand there's a petition signed by over 10.000 people to issue a patch which "restores" the dropped parts, but LucasArts has apparently no intention of making this happen.
So, if anyone can give me advice it would be appreciated. Is the game worth it, or should I skip it and/or wait for someone else (the unavoidable net project) to patch the game?

Yeah , the ending leaves much to be desired, but all in all, it is still a great game. I enjoyed it almost as much as the first.

Knights of the Old Republic, a computer game set 2000(? not sure) years before Episode I. Very good game, good gameplay mechanics, very good plot, excellent dialogue. It and its sequel, Kotor II, are proof that there are better people than Georgie boy to write Star Wars stuff.

Yup got both of them I think KOTOR2 has a smoother gameplay and lots of interesting improvements to the engine. However I agree that there are some flaws near the end of the story. Still if you like KOTOR1 they you'll also like the sequel. I'm playing it for the third time right now (this time as the meanest chick this side of hell -why is it so much fun to be evil? )
If KOTOR got ***** I'll give KOTOR2 ****
Cheers!

Gameplay is better in II, but the interaction and dialogue between the various characters was better in the first one. HK-47 rocked in that one!
