I know that someone somewhere suggested the armies would not be available separately from the game - I'm not sure that's true. The original plan was that they would be available separately in some fashion. That helps spread the tooling costs a bit as well as allowing folks to beef up their armies - so I can't see any reason not to make the armies available. Dunno if the studio cost counts as R&D as such - it certainly amounts to a substantial overhead - when I ran the studio I had a budget and this was accounted for at group level. As GW designs, makes, and runs its own tools the cost of an individual tool isn't such a big deal - it costs the same to run a machine as not to run it (pretty much) so it's more a question of keeping the volume constant. So there you go - personally - I'm proud of BOFA 'cos I think it's nicely done - if it sells 1,000 or 100,000, so long as it sells to people who enjoy it for what it is - that'll do me just fine:) Rick |

He does mention substantial overheads but it does seem that plastic producing costs have been exagerated ![]() |

Interesting to see in the Fanatic blog that Jervis says the game is actually a limited run; The game is being produced in a limited run of 8,000 copies, so its worth while considering ordering a copy in advance just in case in sells out very quickly. You can place pre-orders by on Games Workshop UK online store |

I wouldnt hold them to the 'limited' numbers. I would guess that this was the initial print run, and if it did well then they would make more. But, if it doesnt, they havent promised anything. GW has a REALLY bad record of 'limited edition' stuff which is subsequently released mainstream later. It is a shame, I MIGHT be interested in the game if it was ?35-?40, but ?50 is a bit much for me. |

Ricky P has said on the warmaster lists that 8,000 is theinitial run. Thats the number that have been ordered by the individual sales cells. However, if they're unexpectedly inundated then they will certainly produce more, it just may be unavailable for a whort while between runs. Its also been confirmed that if this box set is classed as a good enough sucess, further titles may be added to the range - All good news tomy ears! |

Its not the plastic itself its the molds used in the injection process thats killer coin. The company I used to work for in the late 1990 was looking at plastic pieces for boardgames and we received quotes of anywhere from $10-15,000 US for the size and complexity of what we wanted. A good example of mold pricing can be found here: http://www.protomold.com/prices/prices.asp Now having said that I still think GW is shovelling it when it comes to pricing. |

Correct - and welcome, Heresiarch. The moulds can be very expensive, running into thousands of pounds, although this also depends on the size, the complexity, and the plastic for which the mould is to be used. The cost is recouped by production runs of several thousands. |

Don't forget the injection machine itself is quite pricey. Last time I had any inclination to keep up with such things was 10 years or so ago and a flexible machine that could do stuff up to the size of plastic patio chairs was ~$250,000 iirc. The cost of the machine has to be recouped in the products also. But yeah, I agree that it's not nearly as expensive as they imply. |

Hmmm... ?50 is also a little too much for me- ![]() At ?40 I would have bought a copy, but haven't got the spare cash to shell that much for something I only have a minor interest in.... |

It should be listed in the online catalog description. I won't swear to it, but assuming it's 3 stands/unit like WamasterI recall it being something on the order of 16 units of various kinds. Compared to $13 US per WM unit, that's a pretty big price break. |
