Hi all, I'm renowned locally for my pessimism, and I hope this is another example. Yesterday I bid for the first time on ebay, and won (!) 4 plastic titans and a bundle of plastic marines and rhinos. BUT - the seller advertised payment by paypal, or by local (UK) or foreign cheques, and as my bank's got a problem with paypal (I'm not too keen either) I bid with the intention of paying by bank draft. I tried emailing the seller, just to make sure, but with one hour to go I didn't get an answer - possibly my email messing in a thunderstorm (this happens with our server at times - so I bid and won. Now the seller has no problems with Malta, and has sent me the shipping cost which is ok - I replied to ask about the draft - and no answer (9 hours later) - ok, I guess I'm counting broken eggs before they're dropped, but I've a bad feeling about this.... any words of wisdom? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yah, I would not worry at this point. You have had contact and the seller knows you are interested etc. Hang in there. dafrca |

I think everybodys does! Waht a brilliant forum, how many other places exist where people are willing to pay for something for basically a complete stranger (not complete, but you know what I mean) ![]() |

Paypal can be a bit weird when you're not from a large country. The problem is that the confirmation code which is supposed to show up on your bill just isn't there. Instead the bank only registrers that a withdrawal in a foreign currency has been made so there's no way to activate your paypal account ![]() ![]() Anyway: If it is a normal friendly seller he'd too be interested in working things out. Most people are pretty flexible -the transaction conditions are often just a formality to ensure that the seller has some level of control of the situation. I've even had a seller who sent me the goods before I'd even sent the cheque -I think he was going on holliday or something... Anyway to end my babbeling: Most people are actually pretty friendly and just don't want the very few a**holes arround to screw up the deal. If he's got overall positive feedback it shouldn''t be any problem. As a houose rule I allways read what negativee feedback a seller has before bidding. You can often judge by the languuagee used if he's the kind of person you'd want to do business with. Cheers! ![]() |

Hi all, now that's the problem - new seller (although he does have several items on sale, they're his first on ebay). I risked this bec. 4 Beetlebacks + several rhinos and marines for 25.50GBP isn't bad at all. Now I'd like to believe there won't be any problem, but he's not answered yet - except initially to confirm the cost of shipping to Malta. More importantly, thanks to all you guys for the support and encouragement. I might have to take up an offer to go by someone's paypal. As Justiniel said, this is a great place! |

Hope that this works out for you, and I am in the UK with both a cheque and PayPal if needed. EBay generally gives at least three working days for the reply of any email, so I would not start to worry about anything until five days without contact. |
