Parties unknown have announced their intention to publish a new edition of the 1969 space warfare classic Lensman, based on the novels by E. E. "Doc" Smith. Here's the official site.    Here's a page from my website about the game.

I've fiddled around with the video game version a bit, but not enough to get a clear idea of what the gameplay is like.  It is reputed to be a variation on a game called "Jutland."  This seems appropriate to me, as most of Smith's nomenclature was clearly WWI-based.  I'm quite the Lensman fanatic, as my website illustrates, so you can believe that I'll be buying this as soon as it comes out.

Cool!  I never played the boardgame, but I really enjoyed the books, they were in the same style as some of Heinlien's works, who is, and always will be, my Grand Master of Science Fiction.

Oh, btw, the link to the video game version is dead.

It was up yesterday. ?Hmmm.. ?evidently Mr. Chung decided that he didn't want to commit copyright infringement anymore. ?It's sad, but he never really finished his version anyway, so I guess it had its five years in the sun and will now retreat in the face of the physical version resurrected.

I don't think that I would agree that Smith's style was the same as Heinlein.  Smith had a much more Victorian sensibility about him, and thoroughly enjoyed utilizing his vast vocabulary, even in dialogue.  Heinlein...  well, I can agree with your assessement of him: the Grand Dean indeed.  Easily the best SF author to date.  Smith and Heinlein were good friends, from what I understand.

A good top three.  Mine would probably have to be Heinlein, Smith, and Card.  Classic, prehistoric, and modern.
