Post subject:  Problem with Graphics driver???

A week ago I updated my Nvida driver to the newest version. Suddenly yseterday when I booted my comp the screen went black. I get the usual startup pic and "Windows XP loading" image but when my desktop should load the screen just goes blank.
I did some researck from my girlfiend's labtop (where I'm writing from now) and i appears that others have had the same problem.
The suggested solution was to boot XP in VGA mode and install a new driver but that doesn't help it just freezes. I also tried in various Safe modes but it does the same thing when it gets to oading something called mup.sys. I have also tried to alter the Boot sequence to boot from a WinXP CDROM but for some reason it won't do that either!
I can launch programs from my floppy drive; does anybody know a program where it might be possible to enter and alter the graphics driver from DOS?

BTW I have a TI4200 128 mb graphic card and directX9b if that is of any help.
I'm pretty lost on this so any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers! :)

If you have a spare graphics card, preferable not a Nvidia, you could pull the original and use the temporary card to boot, then uninstall and delete the problem driver.  Did you do a clean install of the new driver?  I mean, uninstall and remove the old one completely, then reboot and let windows redetect your card?  Because if you didnt, that can sometimes cause problems.

Hmmm... I just downloaded the new driver and overwrote the old one... That could be part of the problem. Unfortunately I haven't got an extra graphic card to check out if that helps :(
Is there a way to change the drivers from the recovery console?

Cheers!

Edit: From the recovery console I was able to enter the command Disable MUP. ...progress: well sort of... When boting from safe mode the computer now hangs when trying to load SISAGP.sys (sis is the chip on my Mb) instead of MUP.sys... If anything this only proves to me that this indeed has something to do with the graphic card.

Hmmmm, I assume you have tried to recover to a previous recovery point?  But since you overrode the original drivers, this might not work either.  I don't use XP, I use win2k, so I can only be of limited help here.  I don't understand why it wont boot into safe mode, though, that is strange.  Shouldn't be used the graphics driver in that mode at all. :(
