I have decided I need a digital camera. From the preliminary research I have done, one particular camera has caught my eye with its price to quality ratio. So a couple of questions.

1) does anybody have a Canon Powershot A70 or A80? Are they any good in taking pics of Epic scale minis?

2) What other cameras would you people recommend? Since most of you probably take pics of minis your advice is gratefully received.

...that was me asking about getting one a few months back- loads of good tips and advice from the guys here; I ended up getting a Sony P-52 for a great price off Amazon, and I am extremely happy with the results!  :D

I own a Canon Powershot A70. It's the camera I've used to take the pics i submitted to the painting competition. The resolution is ok (3 megapixels) but i had to downsize the image quality in order to submit them -anyway, judge for yourself. For taking pics of Epic minis you'll need the Macro setting and a long exposure time. The camera does that reasonably well for the price. You'll need to pay more than twice the price for aa much more advanced camera to get better images.

Canon's lenses are quite good -and that's really critical in order to get a good picture. Only Olympus, Nikon and Agfa are really up to the job as they have a long experience in that field (as opposed to most of the cheap brands)

The camera has a lot of really nice features to make semi professional shots -definitely one of the very best in the price range.
The camera comes with a 16 mb flash Ram card so you'll probablyy want to buy a bigger card. I have a 256 mb which i find is very suitable.
The only real downside is that it eats up battery pretty quickly so you'll need to buy some rechargables.

I'd recomend this camera anytime but if you insist on buying something else, go for Olympus or Nikon.

Cheers!

Hi!

I have the Sony mavica CD400, and a 500 version is out. The camera is superb for mini photos and everything else in between. Besides the USB interphase it actually stores data on a CD-RW, no expensive flash sticks to worry about (which is one reason I decided against all the cameras mentioned before, high volume sticks can be exceedingly expensive). I picked up 3 RW discs and I wont need anymore EVER.

One MAJOR drawback of this camera, price, we're talking over 600, even more for the latest version.

With this question being asked resonably often, and with the few decent links in here offering advice, I will pin this topic for other people who maybe interested in the future.

Thanks for replies everybody! Hopefully I can get a camera before the christmas rush and even post a few pics. I think I'll follow the example of other members and get a Yahoo briefcase. :)
