Well, since I've come to the conclusion that one or more of you are wise in the ways of fighting machines, I'd like to humbly request some help in getting 'into' them. Everyone has their thing; I've always liked tanks and aircraft, far more so than cars, bikes, ?- only dinosaurs equated in my mind when I was between 4-9 years old. ?
Having then expanded my knowledge to cover everything saurian up to about four years ago, I came to the sad conclusion that no flying dinosaurs with armoured plating ever took part in WW2. ?
So anyhow, I'm asking for guidance on resources to learn about AFVs through time. I could just buckle down and browse through the large bookstores around here, but I'm lazy, and far too involved in other things to go browsing for the next little while. So any suggestions for books to pick up, websites to read, or even discourses done by yourselves to peruse? Something preferabbly interesting - I don't want to get bogged down in details of the weight and construction materials of rivets over the course of eighty years, for instance.
All this was fueled further by me checking out the GHQ site and the combat command stuff. WOW!!!! If I could convince anyone other than my good buddy's dad to game modern or WW2 with me, I'd be all over it like... hobbits over a meal, or Primarch over rare Epic goodness.
Off I go now to find a pair of philosophers who I can compare over the possibility of a just war...

By the way, the statement I quoted is not entirely correct - the Russians had designed a light tank which could have a wing system fitted permitting it to fly - for transport purposes, of course...

Let's see: Achtung Panzer is good and so is AFV news. I'll add more after I've had a chance to go through my bookmark file, so stay tuned! Same tank time, same tank channel!

There are a number of good books about AFVs and MBTs out there. I'll try to find a few to recommend.
Please remind me later to help you. I've had a busy schedule lately.
Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak.

The GHQ site is great and may I recommend : "TANK" by K. Macksey and J. Batchelor. "Panzer Colors" series by Squadron Signal, is also very good. If I remember any more I'll let you know, unfortunately, I packed up most of my library for temporary (?) storage yesterday !!!

And for something more historical: Panzer Battles, by Major General F.W.von Mellenthin and Panzer Leader, by Heinz Guderian (himself!)
For some interesting stuff on markings, a good source of inspiration for IG markings: WW2 Military Vehicle markings, by Terence Wise
For more specific stuff, the Osprey Vanguard series (e.g. the PzKpfw IV; Soviet Heavy Tanks; Polish Armour 1939-1945; etc. etc.) and the Arms and Armour Press Tanks Illustrated (e.g. Battle of the Bulge; Patton's Tanks; British Army Fighting Vehicles 1945 - present; etc. etce. etc.) series have loads of pics and photos.

Thanks guys. I've started browsing the websites, might go downtown sometime soon and see if I can find some stores that carry Osprey books.
