Mods, please feel free to remove this if it goes against the forum rules but I think it goes a bit beyond politics. I find this rather despicable. Apparently they're going to put donour names on a war memorial in Ottawa. Doesn't really make me proud of my Canadian citizenship I can tell you. |

There is something bitterly ironic about a monument against Communism being something you can buy your way on to. |

Then you should see the guy selling Mao memorabilia on Tiananmen square in the Chinese capital. Just don't ask him what Mao would have thought about that way of honouring his memory. The seller was quite upset at a Swedish reporter when confronted with that question. |

I bought one of those metal credit card holders with an etched Mao on it in Shanghai. |

Really hard to keep away from the political stuff, but it seems weird that they picked communism and not one of the world wars. Is there a piece of Canadian history that I'm unaware of in which people were killed by communism outside of the world wars? As to backer donation rewards. Kickstarter went a bit weird a while ago. I've seen some really odd kickstarter rewards that are very dubious. This seems right out of a kickstarter. |

It doesn’t sound like a serious memorial anyway, just something a group of anti-communists wanted to pay to erect. If we built a memorial to Epic, it’d be reasonable for its most generous founders to get their names inscribed onto it. Same thing. It’s only public memorials that need to be held to a higher standard, imo. |

Certainly a good thing that it isn't public. However I disagree with you partly. If we build a monument to Epic it will hardly be to honour the dead, or at least not dead people. Even then, I'd think it would have been more suitable to name the authors, playtesters and/or ERC before you mention the guys paying to the memorial. |

Yeah, if I ever get my name on a memorial, I would expect it is because I am dead, and I died for something with meaning. |

Good points. Then let's think of it as a monument to the people who paid for it, and they're using it to get some message out. |
