Jimbo,
I helped to write and playtest them... - Jimbo |
Would you, please, be kind enough to share a little more about the Iron Cow rules?

Well, it was ten years ago... and I haven't even looked at them recently (last six years at least).
What I remember was that they were a good set of rules, more realistic than any of the GW rules (as far as a set of SF rules can ever be called realistic, when was the last time you were on a hilltop facing down 20 Land Raiders...).
What I mean by realistic was that it reflected how a set of rules should play if you took into account current (well 10 year old) military tactics and strategy.
Morale was very important and it was a clinch if you were going to win.
I might try and dig my copy out, but my memory is not only hazy about the rules but also hazy about where I put them...
I did help run a game of it at Salute, it was a delta style game, therefore lots of water, small islands, hover tanks and a derelict rusty ship (which I made).
Sorry can't be of more help...

I'd be interested in your comments too...they look interesting but have yet to talk to anybody who has played them.
Your Salute demo sounds great. I went to 2001 ans 2002 and was blown away by the quality of the demo games. Just amazing

Jimbo,
Thanks for your comments.

What did you make the rusty ship out of?

Now this, I remember!
I took a Revell 1/400th model kit of a World War II Troop ship, and took the bottom of the hull off at an angle (so the ship looked like it was listing) and then sprayed it rusty red, brown and drybrushed it. It looked very effective, but alas it has disappeared and I have no photos.
Though I built it some time ago I think the kit was similar to this: one But I'm not too sure.
