I don't play 40k anymore, but I have to say, I haven't been this excited about a development in a while. Looks like they are finally moving the story forward. Wow. I thought I'd never see the day. Fantasy had an "End Times" event, and it looks like it's coming to 40k. Something's wrong with the Golden Throne, and the Primarchs are coming back.

I'm having fun thinking of all the Epic applications for this! Check it out -

Just think with there current talented team of writers and designers... oh right...

Tried reading a few of the heresy books. Failed miserably on getting the scope right. After reading quite a bit of WWII histories and biographies they manage to have a grander scope than fiction that supposedly spans a million worlds.

Was it Graeme McNiel who wrote the BFG books? They were fine, but again focused on a small part of the potential story, though the backdrop at least felt like a whole world, if not a very active one.

Gordon Rennie, I think.

World War Z (the book) did a good job of feeling like a real "big picture" look at a campaign. The specific format used might not work for the Black Library, but it's evidence that you can capture a wide scope while keeping a book interesting.

Gordon Rennie did a good job with those bfg books. This could be pretty interesting, it could bring me back to reading black library novels again.

I don’t think it’s actually happening.

Warhammer Fantasy needed it because that whole system is failing in terms of sales. It’s a way to kill off several of the (too) many armies available. Unfortunately it guarantees I won’t get into it, because if I did I would have played Lizardmen and they’re one of the armies being eliminated.

We don't know that they are being eliminated. However my friend and I play Lizards and Bretts respectively and we're not holding out much hope of switching to 9th at this rate. They seem to be the two armies most likely to go right now.

All of this hub bub has actually gotten me interested in Warhammer Fantasy again. I'm waiting patiently to see what all happens, and if I like it, I think GW might start getting my money again. Or I the black market might.

I think the changes, so far, so neat.

Oh, the story stuff is fantastic. I don't have the money to own an iPad, or buy the books when they release, but I've been borrowing and reading when I can. The thing I am not so keen on it the game rules in the Khaine book(they completely changed the magic phase, making it interesting but extremely clunky). I also am not seeing much in the way of balance from one book to the next. I like a balanced game, and find it too frustrating to play without balance. If they sort that out I'll be a total convert to the whole thing gamewise as well as rules wise.
