I was parking in a child space at Aldi this morning as my child was with me, and a couple pulled up next to me with no child and they parked their car in a child space.

Instead of directly confronting them about it (not my style) I pretended to take a photo of their license plate in the hope it would shame them into moving.
It did not.

In the store she approached me and started having a go about me taking the photo and that 'I should be ashamed of myself'.
I pointed out she does not have the right to park there as she has no child.
She said, she is disabled, I said, well in that case why don't you park in the disabled spaces??
Instead of answering she just repeated that I should be ashamed of myself.

I lost my cool.
My voice raised a few decibels and I snapped back quite loudly, NO! You should be ashamed of YOURself for parking in a child space when you have no child!!

She had no come back to that and walked off.
I was applauded by a couple quite close to me who agreed.

So the moral of the story is:

If you are going to be a jerk and break the rules, don't be annoyed when someone calls you on it!

Kudos to you for standing up to her AB. If more people did, perhaps we'd see less of such inapproriate behaviour.

Personally, I'll be in my sniper's nest tonight armed with a camera to see if I can get a picture of the plates on the car that has been mauling my lawn the last few weekends. See if those kids are allowed to borrow the car when their father hears about where they're taking it. (The only way to access the lawn is via a bike path)

Yeah well done. We've become so conflict adverse that some really atrocious behavior goes unchallenged.

There's a guy at my train station who always turns up at the last minute and pushes on to the train in front of everyone else, no matter how long they have been waiting. I can well imagine someone kicking that ignorant beanpole prick on to the tracks one day soon. And I will applaud them.

There are child parking places in Britian? Are the streets paved with gold too??

Yes they are, but being British, its cold and grey and usually broken!

I once got yelled at by a guy in a parking lot for parking in a regular, completely un-special, un-designated parking space because it was a very good spot and he felt an elderly or disabled person might come along and need that spot instead of the dozen vacant handicapped spots in the parking lot.

Unfortunately I was working at the time and in uniform and couldn't do anything but politely take it.

Also, once when I was working in a convenience store, I had a lady tear into me for daring to ask whether or not she wanted a bag for her items instead of just giving her one. This after she forced me to keep 20 people in line behind her waiting for something like 15 minutes while I filled her complicated deli order.

Unfortunately, that is entirely normal over here. There are usually two mostly orderly lines, one either side of the underground train doors, that form. Inevitably, one person will walk down the middle, press their nose against the middle of the sliding doors and rush forwards when the train comes in, before anyone can even get off. Equally unfortunately, this person is usually 50+ and the whole 'respect the older generation' thing in Asia means that no-one can really challenge them.

I have been trying to get off the train in the face of this a few times. Last time it happened, I just stopped in front of them, holding up everyone else trying to get off behind me, and when they STILL refused to just step aside, I charged through them. Probably disgraceful over here, but kind of satisfying.

The sanctity of waiting your turn in line seems to be a primarily Western philosophy.

And a philosophy with declining ascribers it seems.

the wife reckons it's a symptom of social stability. Brits are preapred to queue becuase they can be reasonably sure there'll be another one along in a minute.

I think Walter Sobchak probably speaks for most of us here:
