Now this is a great idea: Drive Thru Wargames Basically, very cheap wargames rules and books, available as PDF format emailed to you. I like it. Also, I had a discussion about this a while ago, but even with a search I couldnt find the thread. I am thinking about this: Classic Battletech Is this the master set? I just want the minimum to play the game and read through. I am sure that I remember that the Classic set was the best one to get. If I get this, will it be everything that I need? Thanks. |

That should be all the rules in one book, as it replaces the Compendium. AFAIK it includes no mech stats, however, so you'll still need at least one of the technical readouts. |

Thanks. I have only a few concerns: If I dont get the boxed set, then I dont get the specs of the mechs, and the maps. Can I cope without these? Do I have to have a hex map to play the game on? Can I construct mechs myself, or download some varieties from the web? If I get the Master Rules, is that everything as a rule book, or is it a suppliment or reference book? Thanks. |

CS: You ROCK, man! I've been wondering where I could get V&V stuff for a while. The guys I play with and I had a campaign from high school through early college, one of our longest running of any kind. Thanks for the source. And did I mention you ROCK!? ![]() |

Without the maps, yes as the rules include conversion rules for hexless (i.e. normal) mini gaming. Without the mech specs, yes if you design your own. However, I would consider investing into the technical readout 3025 as it includes specs for all the classic mechs like Warhammer, Battlemaster, Atlas, Phoenix Hawk, Archer, Locust and the like. Do I have to have a hex map to play the game on? Can I construct mechs myself, or download some varieties from the web? |

Neal - glad that the link is useful. ![]() Mojarn - thanks for the replies. I will probably get the two books that you recommend. I am tempted to try to find them in paper form, but I have been sniped on EBay and so I may just get the PDF versions - and the ability to print off selective pages as required is a nice prospect too. |

Well, I will shortly be a BattleTech owner, if not a player. EBay has provided the Classic Battletech boxed set (?12), and both the Master Rules Revised and Maximum Tech (?24). Now I just have to wait for them to arrive! I will hold off on 3025, to see what specs I actually get in that lot. Do you think that it is still worth the investment? Thanks. |

I agree. So far, I am managing to convince the g/f that 'getting yet another set of historical rules allows me to use the minis, and so I dont need more... so I am actually saving money!' ![]() But, I am a sucker for those tech books of cut-aways and specs, so I am sure that I will get some soon. I just dont know if 3025 has necessary mech specs that I dont have in the three installments that I have already bought. |

Hi! I read threads like this and cant help but smile.... ...it reminds me of the time when I too need "justification" from my peers to pick up yet another game.... ...now I just buy it and wallow in my own limited self control..... ![]() Primarch |

No it won't. Unfortunately. Plus it has potential to backfire when (NOT if...) you buy more minis anyway. At present my wife is more concerned about my growing book collection. She doesn't understand the concept "reference library". ![]() ![]() |
