Hi!

As we all know there is a real lack of 6mm rules available. One notable set of rules is Dirtside II.

Does anyone play DSII?

What is your opinion of DSII?

Have you converted "epic" minis to use in DSII?

On another track, does anyone know of other 6mm sci-fi rules and care to comment on them?

Thanks!

Primarch

I respectfully disagree with you on this one, Primarch.

There is a real dearth of 6mm microarmor (WWII and Modern) rulesets available.

There are also a number of 6mm sci-fi rulesets available. None have become very popular with the exception of Dirtside II, which I think is a great ruleset. I have a whole list of 6mm sci-fi rulesets listed on my profile under miniatures games. Iron Cow is also a great ruleset among others. OGRE, of course, is one of the greatest rulesets ever created.

I have seen Epic minis being used in both OGRE and Dirtside II.

Shalom,
Maksim-Smelchak.

Hi!

I respectfully disagree with you on this one, Primarch.

Really?! Well, with the two you mentioned, DSII and GW's rules thats about four.

There is a real dearth of 6mm microarmor (WWII and Modern) rulesets available.

Not as much as sci-fi I think, I know of:

Spearhead
GHQ's micro armor rules
Mein Panzer
Ty beards fist full of TOW's WWII expansion
Command decision III (mostly used for 15mm, but there are provisions for 6mm)

I know several more that I can put a name on from the top of my head, but I think we got quite a few WWII ones. Modern rules may be scarser though.

Ogre is interesting, although I dodn't like the rules much, the background however I thought was very good.

Iron cow? I know little of that one, got a synopsis?

I have seen Epic minis being used in both OGRE and Dirtside II.

Yup, me too. The OGRE infantry looks pretty good.

I have never played any of those games. I should pick up a copy of some of these rule sets. It is always nice to have fresh ideas about how things get done.

Didnt Tuff have a discussion a while ago with someone about this very topic on the 'old' boards. I am sure that there was a thread about Epic troops for DSII - or was that on the Epic list?... Damn it, I am sure that I have seen something somewhere...

The "hybrid" rules that we use, have some DSII ideas. ?DSII is a good set of rules however, we felt the Infantry rules, are a little weak or basic. ?And with Epic having a lot of different types of "Grunts" with each army, this was a major failing. ?But none the less, not a bad system ...

Hi!

You may want to check out my epic coversions to DSII files, I took several ideas from the net and modfied the infantry rules to better suit 40k style infantry.

I have played a variety of 6mm SF games - IIRC my "real" name is mentioned in both DSII and Iron Cow - and have used non-Epic and Epic minis.

I aways preferred DS 1 and used a "simplified" version of the rules for many years - which is probably why I like Epic40K and don't like SM/TL as I prefer a quick set of rules over "realistic"...

I bought Renegade Legion, and then never touched it... I think I may still have it (or I probably sold it on eBay).

I always liked WRG Moderns, but played WRG WWII many moons ago.

What I haven't done is converted between systems in any big way.

Hi!

Renegade Legion was pretty cool, but lord was it over complex, like yourself, I picked it up and hardly played it at all (perhaps once).

I dont think I ever picked up the first version of DS, how was it compared to DSII?

It interesting what different people prefer as far as simplicity in their rules. I for example like very simple and streamlined games in games like space hulk or legions of steel or spaceship games (I never liked star fleet battles) and I prefer Spearhead or Ty beards Fist full of TOW's for modern of WWII over command desicion, but in epic I much prefer lots and lots of chrome.

I think DSII is a much better designed and realitic game than epic. I'm not sure in what spectrum DSII falls into, detailed or streamlined? I guess I'd be inclined to say its more detailed than streamlined.

You know I may be the opposite. I have renegade legion: interceptor and leviathan. I addapted alot of the rules and things onto the old space fleet game (years ago) because the rules were painfully basic and simple. I don't need complete realism. Like I don't want to have to figure out the wind direction and speed before each shot. However, I like some complexities in my games.

I see Ty's Fist Full of TOWs ut if you go to his site He has a few Sci-Fi rules sets as well. He has Railgun: 2100 (based on FFT), Jumptrooper, and a few Victorian Sci-Fi as well.

Goto:

http://www.tyler.net/tbeard/home.htm

Others I can think of that you all have not covered (or at least I did not see it :-) are:

MAATAC at http://www.geohex.com/MKPIndex.htm

Generic Leagons (this is not to be taken seriously though)
at  http://www.irvania.com/oldgames.htm

Hellfire (same people who do Iron Cow) at
http://www.blease.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/WG.homepage.html

Did anyone say Battletech?

Days of Empire by Riversco at
http://www.tin-soldier.com/doe/doe1.html

I think Adler has a rules set to go with their Dark Star line as well (Am I wrong?) their minis can be found at
http://home.clara.net/adlermin/

This does not cover the 10 or so "free" online rules sets I have seen out there.

OK I have ranbled on enough.

dafrca

Who still likes DSII and Epic best :-)

Hi!

Yes, I mentioned BT in my original post. Railgun 2100 is not a bad game, but a tad too generic for my tastes, but the mechanics are pretty solid.

Hello Primarch,

I figured someone must have spoke of Battletech and I just missed it :-)

I thought Railgun was fun but I went with Dirtside because it had the "feel" i was looking for at the time. I like Dirtside for my "realistic" feeling games and Epic for my fun games.
