This has come up a few times. While there has been some over-reaction (On the internet? Never!) the facts are these: - I have not had anything from GW at this time - There is only one site recorded as getting one of these, TalkBB - The site which got one, was taking donations and had GW IP in its URL - The letter stated that the site owner must remove GW IP from the URL - The owner has not visited or updated the site in a long time, and has chosen to take it down instead of make the (considerable) effort to remove GW IP from the URL. I really dont think that this is as big an issue as people are making out. I dont think that GW are 'killing the web'. I do think that they are being heavy handed. I do think that this could have been resolved if the site owner chose to do so. I dont blame the site owner for not choosing to resolve this after supporting BB possibly more than GW do and getting little in return. |

When does it come to TacCom? http://www.frothersunite.com/phpBB2....start=0 http://www.tabletopgamingnews.com/2009/11/03/31143 nb these two sources are basically repeating the same info about TalkBB -- Frothers and ttgn have not themselves received C&Ds, as I first thought on reading the thread. That said, GW is quashing the use of a trademark in exchange for generating a lot of (multiplying) bad press about Games Workshop . This sort of thing was a better business strategy in the heyday of print... now, they're just pushing "Games Workshop" nearer the top of the Google Search "Intellectual Property" "frivolous legal threat" and "bad corporate media strategy." As they say.... "Weaksauce." Blizzard -- one of their cutthroat competitors -- plays this game much better. |

GW has "BB" copyrighted? I really don't see how "TalkBB" constitutes IP infringement. I really doubt GW has issued a letter to Daisey air guns demanding they stop using the term "BB" too. |

The website is www.talkbloodbowl.com The main problem would have been people making money from the IP. They're pretty hard-line about that compared to other companies. |

I was under the impression that this had to do with the licencing of the Blood Bowl computer game. Thus they aren't really making an issue of it to other groups. I also noted some of the old Space Hulk material that had been floating around on the web for ages seemed to disapear around the time GW released the new boxed set. By that sort of logic Epic websites would only have trouble if GW decided to bring back support for the game. Which would be good (depending on delivery of course). |

And while I actually do understand what they are saying it... Quote: At no time did Games Workshop demand that any website close down. It boils down to... "If you don't close down your current operation we will hit you with our legal department." Which is the same "choice" as you get in "Give me your money or I'll kill you! (And not take my money?)" Is epic40k.co.uk exempted because Epic40k is not current? Would TalkManOWar be accepted? Or was it that little "donate"-button to give money to the ISP what bothered Games Workshop? Wouldn't it then be more prudent to send the C&D to them? As they are the ones making money out of this IP "infringement"... |
