Was thinking about picking up arcane legions.  Arcane Legions  Anyone pick it up and play it yet?  Any opinions?  Listened to a podcast review of it and they seemed to love it.

From what I can make out, these are 28mm, and they are going down the 'collectable, but its not really collectable, honest' route with this. The splash release seems to be the entire range, in stock boxes so that you can guarantee that you get everything if you buy a box.

The rules seem interesting - Each base has several peg holes. You place a card over the base to only reveal some peg holes. You stand your figures into some of the holes, and the symbol next to the hole leads to an advantage for the unit, so with 7 infantry and 9 holes, you could have 3 bonuses to attack, 2 to defence and 2 to movement. You reform a unit by moving the guys around.

They are also 'semi pre-painted' with the 'leaders' being painted and the rank and file being unpainted but with painted shields.

Background is historical/fantasy - Chinese, Romans and Egyptians, with a bit of magic, dragons, etc thrown in.

Prior to the release the creators crashed my buddies web site pretty much to puch his game.  That rather turned me off before the word go.

A bit of a typing error there  :sulk:

Anyway, they just posted on my buddies site to sell their game.  If they visited now and then and also promoted is one thing, to visit only for the promotion is a bit tacky.

What website is this?  I'm confused, did they use an open forum to advertise their game?  Did they spam their product across other peoples postings?  So you are passing judgement on a game without actually playing it.

It is another privately owned public gaming forum.  No they did not trample others forum threads to promote their game.  They created their own thread in an appropriate area.  All perfectly fine, the only part that bothers me is that their only presence and intention was free advertising.  And yes, I am passing judgment on a game I have never played before; we have all done that too.  We choose and pass on games all the times for any number of reasons without fully examining them.  This is just as good as reason as any, not like I need another game system anyway.
