I used to attend before I became a vagabond) Kathys wargames holidays. A week long residential 6mm WWII wargame with approx 60 players in 2 teams. Anyone else used to do, or does do, similar big style games?
Otherwise what 'big' games have you done!

Use to go to a Convention in Melbourne, Aus that had epic as game for people who wanted to stay the night, to be played at night. Point where as many as you had.

Been to an event a few hours out of melbourne in the country the last two years which was a 2 day, 20 a side game of 40k. 3000 points each, so 60,000 points per side. All hosted at a school camp with a large shed we played in and bunk rooms I managed to find my way too at night. Was good fun, but I tend to find the mechanics of the game doesn't stand up to making those sort of games enjoyable. More of a tedious, frustrating affair. The drinking and talking crap portions of the weekend were always fun though.

The only really big game I ever played was about four years ago at the sparsely attended Albany tournament. We had all of three people, Moscovian, Suvarov and me. Knowing beforehand that it was just the three of us, we decided to play one large, three-way game, 17,000 points per side, for a total of 51,000. It took us two hours just to set up. It was a blast!

40000 pts of Epic with SM and Guard V Eldar.  If only Everything had been painted, that would have been double awesome!

Edit - Actually we have played some MASSIVE games of 40K but it was more like having 20 Normal games all going at once on one massively long (horseshoe shaped) table.  You could only move within your sphere of influence (8 foot of your closest model) meaning it took me a few turns to telport my 13th Company Space Wolves over to a killer armoured company force to show them the Melta Gun, Combi Melta, Combi Melta Multi Powerfist Character and Unit Combo hurt!

Well, it was either a Red Barricades campaign that stretched over six months, a 4 day blitz of Guderian's Blitzkrieg II at Consimworld a couple years ago, or a 15mm WWII Command Decision campaign on the Arnhem attack.

I have to say, Red Barricades, Guderian's Blitzkrieg, and maybe Siege of Jerusalem remain some of my best gaming experiences -- Red Barricades got pretty consuming: we'd play on Wednesday nights from about 5 PM to about 10:30.... then I'd spend the rest of the night visualizing the next game's set up.

nothing like stopping the turn before your opponent was about to blunder into a 4 HMG killzone.  I spent a lot of time that night trying to figure out the sequencing that would tempt him deep into the killzone.

... and then the first MG broke, the second failed to get rate, and the third drew his sniper. @)#%U#@*&$.

There was a lesson there about making too-intricate plans.

!!!

Ouch! Talking about the best laid plans... You would have done some serious damage if your opponent had ever walked into your kill zone.
