So I dragged my diseased carcass out to see this (not that hard really, the cinema is about 50 metres from the lobby) and it really is an excellent film. With of course various apartite references I got to borfully point out to my wife. But really great first film for the director, great first job for the lead actor and entertaining graphics from the special effects company in their first film!
I especially liked the interviews with random people about 'illegal aliens' where people were apparently actually giving their views on Zimbabweans:)

I concur, a superb film, even if you leave aside the reflections on real life it's an entertaining movie.

The reflections on real life are what make it more than just a sci-fi film.  All the best sci-fi are analogy or social commentary.  And the nerdy little kid alien was pretty cool.

I'm hoping to see it tomorrow, I've yet to hear a bad word about it, seems us sci-fi wargaming types are especially impressed with it!  

I agree very good movie. Butit has several logic holes and alot of peaople seem to complain about the blatant portrayal of the "racism is bad" message.

Top notch movie!  

It made a real change to watch a movie that wasn't totally Americanised.    

Logic holes? Nah, anything can be explained away with Sci Fi Or even just how people are (the 3rd Reich had a few logic holes luckily for us).

And I wouldn't say it was blatent 'racism is bad' rather it just shows you how people react to those they consider less than themselves, the abuse to children, the casual denigration in speech, mixed with how you can selectively see some people as all right and not others. Nothing particularly ground breaking about it but something worth being reminded of in our lovely lives in the first world. And for whatever reasons the South African actors do a fantastic job of completely normalising that behaviour. Incidentally if you see the aliens as less sentient than humans (and the majority appear to be somewhat drone like) is there anything wrong with the humans behaviour? Especially since you are talking about 2 million aliens in a city with a human population of 4 million or so.

Just having a look at the associated websites they did for the film, they are quite entertaining.
