Well, GW legal have pressed the exterminatus button and vassal 40K is going to die. I guess the module will still work with vassal, but you may have to play point to point rather than on the server.

Bugger.

Well as its this team that was doing the work, yes.

As I said if you have the module it will still work, just your stuck with what you have unless you can make improvements yourself (and somehow got the changed module to your opponent!).

Not really a surprise that GW came down on them, but considering there is a module for warmachine and hordes i've not heard that Privateer Press are getting heavy on them :)

This sucks! Will we still be able to play in the future with no further updates? Or will we not be able to play at all?

If the former we could save and share it round for people who want it?

The site is closing down, so it's bye, bye for epic as well.

I think you can still do "direct" games, one-on-one, but no more "served" games with spectators and such.

Would've been great if an a last updated EPIC module came out.

Quite honestly I don't think Vassal was going to get to anything past the three armies he provided (Orks, SM, IG).  I personally made up two entire sets of pieces for the Dark Eldar and the Necrons and he didn't want to put them up.  The quality wasn't perfect, but they were certainly recognizable and he could have swapped out the pieces as he re-did them.  Instead he chose not to be bothered.  I know Hena was working to get some other armies as well and met with a similar lack of enthusiasm.

He was just stretched too thin on time to devote to the project, so we're not losing much here.  Of course if a programmer were to be able to crack that bad boy open and it just 'happened' to end up as share-ware sompeplace with all sorts of armies available for it, that wouldn't be so bad.

I haven't looked all that closely at Vassal Epic, so I don't know all of its features.

However it strikes me that vassalengine.org would not have too much of a problem hosting a Future War Commander or Seeds of War module, which would not be at all difficult to use to conduct games of other types.

Are you sure?
The Vassal server is hosted by a different team (and has, give or take, the same 'legal protection' a p2p network has - they provide the platform, the content - the module - is up to the user).
I'd think we could still play there. It is a bit of a wasteland right now, though.

damn, that's a disaster - Vassal is the only way I've been able to play Epic up til now. Gotta say, GW's actions are making me less and less inclined to ever spend any money on their products.

Hopefully the casting activities on taccoms will remain under the GW radar  which is my main worry with the E&C+Jonluke titan projects - that presenting their efforts to GW will not be recieved favourably and come back on other water based mammals activities.

E&C has an arrangement with FW where they have asked him to show them more models. If the cast model E&C presents is of excellent quality, as good as they might make themselves, then I could see them possibly going for it. I don't see risk in just him showing it to them even if they do decline.

Jonluke's is grey market model I believe, not destined for FW. Never in a million years would they accept and release a fan designed epic Warlord as the official rather than designing the biggest and most impressive of their models themselves. I hope it keeps a low profile.

As a whole I am concerned for the individuals and their efforts though, lets keep our collective fingers crossed GW radar never picks us up. I'm more concerned about Groover's advertising some of the models around the web like he has been, which IMO a very bad idea and just asking for trouble.

I'm skeptical that Vassal40k's closure means much about the ability to play the relevant vassal module on the vassal server -- and I don't see anything on the vassal forums suggesting that R. Kinney or the other people involved with the server and the basic engine have received a cease and desist note.

Further, it is by no means clear that the vassal40k/epic engine violates GW intellectual property, beyond the use of familiar names for units (and the K for 'the green creatures who were once called orcs').

I somehow doubt that there would be much objection to a Vassal module featuring the "Marine Corps," the "Hunter-Scavenger Mob", or the "Red Guard" to say nothing of "Eldritch Caste" etc.

Perhaps such a module should be posted on the vassalengine site.
