Yes, the knock off merchant at http://www.ravenstarstudios.com/ is having a sale, maybe he seeks to get rid of stock before the police catch him, maybe he has finally got a licence or two and is celebrating, who knows.

This is the other knock off shop for Sci Fi space Ships

Chris

I think "knock-off shop" is a bit of a harsh way to describe someone who has made models of either hard to find models or models inspired by ceratin movies/TV shows. I think that is out of order personally. I mean would you describe the likes of Otterman or Evil and Chaos in such a way??

Ravenstar produced figures that were detailed and well moulded with very little flash. His production quality was as good as more maintsream manufacturers such as Forgeworld. Especially when you consider it was not his main job but merely a hobby done in evenings/weekends.

I bought several of his Colonial ships inspired by both old and new BSG. These were invaluable in actually making a Full Thrust/Starmada Colonial fleet adding some variant classes to the Hasbro Titanium Galactica.

He has also done some Star Trek 1;2500 scale ships from Franz Joseph ST Technical Manual and also Wolf 359 ships. These ships may never have appeared on screen (or for Wolf 359 ships never saw them complete only their wreckage following Borg attack) but they would appeal to ST fans.

I have no idea whether Ravenstar is ceasing to make his models but I wish him all the best in future. I know I have enjoyed and would recomend his models.

Cheers

James

He commercially sells them to make a profit. Not as a hobby or something for friends. His prices factor in a salary for his time and I beleive his company is registered from past discussion on TMP.

He does actually have various licences now for certain models and he certainly isn't as blatent as studio bergstrom (which is inferior quality as well).

Yes they are nice models. Yes they fill a hole that the licencors don't wish to fill. But hes still running it as a money making propisition which uses other peoples IP.

To my knowledge E&C and otter have no intentions of doing the same.

Still none of that would stop me buying some if I wanted to play a BSG game (sadly the last season of the tv show spoiled things considerably).

I have been looking for a good substitute for a Marine Landing Craft. Thanks for the sites. Hoping I may find something there in place of the stupidly priced GW one...

I have to admit that I dont 100% agree with what Ravenstar does, and if I owned the rights to the ships that he is producing, I would be more than a little angry at his efforts. That aside, he does provide a service that cannot be found elsewhere. I dont own any of his stuff, largely because there are so many minis and not enough time, but partly because they are 'unlicensed'.

All that aside, I really just wish he would get on and produce the Cold Navy stuff! He has had that license officially for a long time (two years next month!), and we have seen several 'masters' (they are CAD designs, but you know what I mean) and as far as I know no actually ships have been for sale!

Yeah, I don't know what his deal is with that. When I was at his shop 2 years ago he had piles of them cast already.

I have to agree with you on Cold Navy. That was a lovely line of figures- some beautiful ship designs. I would have bought some direct but for the fact that they did not have a UK distributor. My favourite was the Terrans but could not get hold of any on ebay- I was lucky enough to pick up some Mauridians and Kharadorn.

I have been waiting (im)patiently for the Terrans to be re-released. I know that Ravenstar has had a lot on his plate in between his ST & BSG models, not to mention his work on 1:20k scale Star Wars Executor Super Star Destroyer.

Cheers

James

I've never bought from Ravenstar but have had the site bookmarked for some time.  Anyone have a clue how big those 4 legged walker drones are?

2 for 1 you say?  Is there a code or something to order with?  I just see the normal prices.
