So here I am attempting something grand (Yup, another Warhead bad painting/moding project) and the world and it's workings keeps putting roadblocks in the way. Now if this was a physical encounter it wouldn't be a problem... But here I am stuck with my thumb up my ass while some greedy shipping firm is telling me I have to pay twice as much as my order costs to buy so I can have the stuff sent to me. Come on. It's supposed to be a small world full of Hi-tech world (Gimmick-Tech more like, Technology without purpose) Surely they can send stuff that costs $14.00 from the USA (Privateer Press) but the delivery cost is more like the moon. $30+ to send. WTF! It was the same when I tried to buy 6mm trees for F's sake! I could get a huge bag for $25 but had to pay $30+ to ship it. Is the battle for the Atlantic still on going, are we under navel blockade or something. Damn it! I am sounding off right now so don't dare post a reasonable reply trying to tell me that $30 is just how much it costs because I am kicking kittens over here!!! All I wanted were these parts not full models. Does anyone know if there are other suppliers in the UK for parts?.. 1x Leviathan crushing claw  $4.00 1x Deathjack right arm/necro claw $5.00  4x Epic Lich Lord Asphyxious soul 1  $0.25 = $1.00    4x Epic Lich Lord Asphyxious soul 2  $0.25  = $1.00  1x  Sentinel chain gun  $3.00      Subtotal $14.00   USPS Express Mail International (EMS)UPS Worldwide Expedited  Shipping    & Handling $30.25 |

Quote: (Warhead @ 28 Dec. 2008, 14:54 ) Shipping    & Handling $30.25 I would *highly* advise contacting Privateer Press directly, using their frontdesk@privateerpress.com address (I think that's what it is, but go to their website to be sure), as they've had all kinds of "oddities" in regard to international shipping rates since they made some changes in their webstore. Good luck! They're usually quite good to deal with, just don't *start* the conversation pissed! *laugh* |

Sadly, that is probably the correct price because it is being shipped Express rather than first class. A package that size could potentially go 1st Class, though, and would be about 1/3rd the price; I would give them a shout (but not shout at them, mind you!) and see if you can get it shipped via a different method. Good luck! |

Definitely avoid USPS express mail. Even global priority mail is somewhat better. And you should be able to get those items sent first class. But international postage mounts up quickly. The bigger problem is that the U.S. Post office is trying to steer folks toward USPS priority mail, etc. Chaosorc -- www.chaosorc.com -- is a pretty good U.S. supplier... They charge international shipping at cost -- you'll want to check how much and how they ship beforehand, of course. Been trying to figure out how to avoid the 30% shipping charge from Kallistra and Pendraken, btw. |

I recommend that you only buy plastic or miniatures that are still sealed in their package from ChaosOrc. I bought a HUGE lot of Space Marines from them. 75% were recasts. The owner did make it right and refunded me my entire order plus shipping and allowed me to keep all of the recasts(plus a pack of Whirlwinds that were still in the package). The recasts were utter garbage. The only thing they were good for is for making damaged tank objectives or the bin. He claimed that he bought them off of ebay and didn't examine them closely enough. I have no reason to doubt this, but still it's something to consider if you want to buy from him. |

Im totally with you on this one Warhead. Im pretty sure its down to poor infrastructure - in Europe and the US both - the same philosophy: teh post offices are likely privatized or semi-privatized all over the world: even if they are state owned, their objective is not to provide a basic service, but to make money. And why the heck do they insist on shipping metal miniatures by air? Wouldnt it be nice if you could at least have the choice to put it on a ship? It doesnt always matter if the stuff gets here a couple of weeks later. Why is that really? So they try to make money on what used to be infrastructure, a basic framework that the state supplied as service for citizens, and actually a precondition for the open market to work. Its like a toll in disguise. I hear a lot of arguing for the free market going on, although never in this context - I find that very interesting... (Well Im being horribly unfair, but there you go... Its a rant, thats what theyre for) |

Dont sit on the fence... tell us how you really feel! At least you know. I ordered some stuff earlier this year from the states. I paid the shipping of almost 40UKP. Then I got hit for import tax, and then the delivery company demanded extra money for 'administrative tasks'! How can they hold my goods for ransom for a charge that is not clear and which is beyond standard costs? |

It's ok guys, scary Jim has gone and only slightly scary and mostly annoying in the excitable puppy, peeing on the carpet kind of way... is back. *cough* Hello!  Thanks guys, I have had time to disengage from rant mode and the red mist has cleared enough for cognitive thought. I think I will get in touch and give them the chance to see what they can/will do for me. If not then I walk, voting with your money is the only power we have as walking cash cows in today's society so I'll use it. How can they hold my goods for ransom for a charge that is not clear and which is beyond standard costs? Cybershadow, I believe the answer to this question is that they are a bunch of money whoring bounders (Hey, I said Barstards not bounders). I could be wrong though. Fences are just handy wood for hitting the other fella' with... IMO.  Chroma, Titivillus. Thanks for the advice lads. I'll do as you advise. I wont even describe how I would like to make balloon animals out of their lower intestines or anything. I'll see what they are willing to do first. I'll be good, honest.  Bro Capt Parzval: Free trade?!. No such animal in this world, mate. Just ask the Africans. (Well I'm being horribly unfair, but there you go... Its a rant, that's what they're for) Exactly, you can not react but in the way you feel otherwise you are lying to yourself. The problem comes when others see you as the scary ranting loon. Can't have it all I suppose.  |

Malikai, Recasts/ChaosOrk... check/will do! Been trying to figure out how to avoid the 30% shipping charge from Kallistra and Pendraken, btw. Carrington, where are these based? In the UK? Would it help if they were sent first to a friendly TacComm member first and then resent to you? Perhaps you could do the same for me too? PM me if this is viable and of interest. I know cheeky or what but if you don't ask you don't get. |

On a similar note, I bought some goodies from Armorcast and got charged about $50US for postage to Australia! When it arrived I noted that it had only cost $20US so I sent them a polite but firm email explaining the situation and had a $30US refund by the next day. Living in Australia makes me VERY aware of postage costs and I hate it! I've always asked for First Class (from US) and try not to take no for an answer. I've only ever had one thing go missing in the post and that was from the UK (got a full refund). |

So, it can be done. Thanks for the hope Onyx. Us colonial satellites to the great US Empire need to stick together... insurrection anyone? |

Warhead, I do order a fair amount of stuff from out of country (I'm Canadian, so many good retailers are out of country) so I feel your pain. I have learned two things, though: 1.) When ordering from the US, try to go with First Class (if you can) and 2.) NEVER have something shipped with UPS (and possibly Fed Ex, etc.) if you can avoid it. They charge brokerage fees, which is a fancy way of saying that you will be paying any potential duties to them PLUS a fee for their time. The sad thing is that this additional fee can push the total duty to nearly 25% of the total bill and every single order is charged, even if your nation's customs department may let it slide (I find that I almost never pay duty on parcels with a value below $50 [about 25-30 GBP] if it is sent through the mail). That brings me to point 2A - you should have an amount that you can purchase without paying duty. In Canada, it is $20 (ie, I can buy 20 bucks worth of stuff and not pay duty), but as I mentioned, I can often get away with much more. Maybe the hard working men and women of the customs dept. in your country catch all the packages, but I usually find many slip through if sent via the normal mail service (particularly via the slower methods). That can save you some money, too. - Chris |

Let me look into it -- I'm not sure how much of a spread there is between their shipping and what Royal mail would charge. But I'd be happy to forward mail from the U.S. -- I do enough ebaying that I've gotten to know international post fairly well. |

Cheers, Chris. I'll check on what the limited amount is for the UK before additional fees are incurred for duty. It's typical... I couldn't order as I had no Paypal. I get Paypal and still can't order. Consumer catastrophe! |
