EIGHT 1s!!!
That's a 1 out of 1,679,616 chance (roughly 0.0000006%) and it lost me the game as the Raptors were able to March to my blitz.
So, anyone else have a similar horror story?
I do. I was playing Speed Freeks and an Ork Fortress Rok against an assault by AMTL and Catachans. There was quite a bit of terrain (jungle), so I took a Fortress Mob so it could maneuver through terrain that AVs couldn't. One of the Warlord titans was down to 1DC remaining, but it had Marshalled, so it had about 5 void shields. I had a Fortress Mob in assault range, which could CC, bypass the shield and almost certainly kill it. The titan was in jungle and the Forts had to make dangerous terrain checks. The exact chain of events is a little fuzzy at this point, but it went something like this:
The first Fort had taken 2 points of damage already, failed it's terrain check and died. The second Fort had taken 1 point of damage, failed it's terrain check, took a critical hit and died. However, before the second for died, it rolled into the third Fort, causing a hit which it failed to save and which then became a critical. The fourth fort, which was broken by that point due to BMs already on the formation, failed a terrain check on the Withdrawal move.
We thought it was very appropriate, old-school Ork that the entire formation self destructed. Once we got done laughing about it, we played a little longer but the Orks were toast at that point.
I haven't actually taken a Fortress Mob in any game since that...
