Should you play 40k, well i shall let the inclusion of this device in the game decide you. The LOS Markerlight.

Something which has been joked about for as long as the technology has existed and DBM players learnt human speech is now available for a game.

There will always be someone willing to undermine the common sense approach to gaming. I think devices like this are counter to the spirit of the game.
I can't even remember the last time a player or I doubted someone's word when calling a target in a game.

I want one! I could glue it to my glasses and pretend to be a Borg...

I've no idea why you should be looking down upon this.

You realise Warhammer 40,000 is a game for kids, right?

These things normally have heath warnings.  Must be weak or they'd put an age restriction on it, in which case you have to play in a dark room.

They'll might end-up withdraw theirs, after accidents with people buying and using full-strength pointer-light-thingies instead.

Gaming-wise it's unnecessary tat-  nothin' wrong with a piece of string.  Perhaps the next move is to make some sort of computer to calculate the line of sight and trajectory.  Maybe add some graphics, sound, keyboard and mouse...

Must be weak

It uses a LED instead of a laser.

I'm curious now - and serious too - how would an LED produce a beam to illuminate a target - great optics? If it IS a laser, then I wonder what class of laser - I've seen at least class 3 lasers used as pointers, and the 'class 3' label ('4' is the highest class) means that it can blind you.

By the way, according to the US site (I think) they're sold out.

And I agree it's tacky-come-gimicky.

I suppose a good, highly-focused LED might be bright enough.  But I'd guess that the moment any light is bright enough, then it's also going to be a health hazard, regardless of the method used.

It's not a beam, it's a dot.

Even a laser won't produce a beam unless you're in a smokey room.

You realise that this sort of comment just makes you look jealous that 40K is 100x* more popular than Epic?

* not a real stat. I just made that up since it seems appropriate.

It's not a beam,it's a dot.

Its a target symbol actually. Not a dot at all.

It uses a LED instead of a laser.

Nope. It is in fact a laser. Read the GW site. It is a Class 2 laser.

If you want to mock something try to at least be aware of what it is tyou are trying to make fun of.

I must be jealous of myself then, seeing as I play Warhammer 40k often.

I was saying that W40k is designed primarily to appeal to kids, and that a lot of GW's support for that game will be designed to appeal to kids, and in no way was lamenting Epic's situation as compared to W40k...

... I'm not a bitter person, Pixelgeek.

That's quite a surprise to me, as a GW manager told me it used a LED a couple of weeks ago.

I'm not the one doing the mocking here, pixelgeek.

I think a necessary invention for the 40k tournament scene.
