I've always enjoyed the Epic battle scenes and titan pictures from the White Dwarf back in the early 100s - 130s.  There were alot of diorama type pictures of the models accompanied by text describing the action pictured during the Heresy and painted titan models.  There was also alot of cool scratch built terrain by Tony Cottrell featured in many pics.

For those that have/had the Adeptus Titanicus and Codex Titanicus books, do they have a good amount of pictures of painted models and/or dioramas?  Or is it mainly black and white art like the SM1 rulebook?

Both books pop up on ebay now and again and I'm wondering if they would be worth picking up for more so for the model pictures rather than the rules themselves.

On another note, if GW put out an "art book" filled with all the Epic model pics from the White Dwarf and rules books over the years, I'd be goober enough to buy it.  Not that it will happen, but it would be cool.  :D

Both of them do have some colored pics of painted titans. Adeptus Titanicus also has a few dioramas. Most of the artwork, though, is in black and white. Given how much they go for on ebay, I'm not sure it would be worth it to buy them just for the pics. However, I say that since I already have both.

I have Codex Titanicus.  It has a quite a lot of pictures, including various paint schemes for the Titan Legions (as they were at that time i.e. the Warp Runners).

Each section starts with some colour pictures and drawings and then the rest of the section has B+W pictures.  The pictures at the start tend to be the titans and the remaining pictures are of the other units.

I would say that Codex Titanicus might be worth picking up for the background info/stories/pictures, but the Adeptus Titanicus book will seem a lot more dated. (P.S. IMO the SM1 book has some of the best stories of any GW rulebook I have read, AFAIK it's the only time they have set a game during the heresay.)

I agree: Codex Titanicus is a great sourcebook. The AT rulebook only has color pictures on the cover. There's some pretty nice color pics on the game boxes themselves as well.
I really enjoyed the novels and background fluff of those old books. Combined with the Realms of Chaos books they remain some of my favourite GW related fluff to date.

I sometimes kick myself for never getting any of the AT novels. I wonder if I can still get any.

Thanks, that's good info.  Sounds like Codex Titanicus would be the one to get for my viewing purposes.

As GW used to put a good chunk of material from the published books into the White Dwarf back then, I wonder if I have a good number of the pictures already in those older WDs?

I agree that the SM1 rulebook as some good fluff stories in it.   Reading some of those again while reading through the Horus Heresy series adds even more life to them.  Cool to see Tarvitz and Garro show up both sources, even though the plot line is different.
