I've been working on this epic game variant for some time now ... after a long hiatus from it I've recently worked over it again ... I decided to give my rules system its first spin to see how it felt so I've only used small forces.

Epic Hybrid was an attempt to combine the detail of Space Marine 2 with such innovative ideas in Epic 40k such as blast markers, custom built detachments, etc. When Armageddon appeared it offered further ideas with its streamlining of rules.

(no photos sorry, just put together some makeshift tokens for the game).

Space Marine Force - Howling Griffons

FORCE COSADES - SPACE MARINE BATTLE COMPANY

Command
Captain Cosades
Librarian Vadicus

Main Force
8 Tactical units
4 Devastator units

Support
2 Dreadnoughts

FORCE BRAXUS - SPACE MARINE BATTLE COMPANY

Command
Captain Braxus
Chaplain Devean

Main Force
6 Assault units
2 Terminator units in 2 Land Raiders

Support
Land Speeder
Land Speeder Tornado

LEGIO MORTICUS - TITAN LEGION REAVER TITAN

1 Reaver Titan (Armed with Gatling Cannon, Chain Fist and Multiple-Missile Launcher)

Total Cost: 1995 points

Ork Force - Durzog's Badmoons

BIGTOOTH'S BAD BOYZ - ORK WARBAND

Command
Warboss Bigtooth

Main Force
4 Nobz units in 2 Kustom Battlewagons (Zzap Guns all round)
12 Boyz units in 6 Battlewagons

RADOK'S RED RAIDAS - ORK KULT OF SPEED

Command
Warboss Radok

Main Force
3 Nobzbike units
6 Warbike units
3 Skorchas
4 Warbuggies

DURZOG'S DREADED DEFF - ORK GARGANT

Command
Warlord Durzog

1 Gargant (Armed with Deff Kannon, Mega Choppa and da Gaze of Gork)

Total Cost: 2000 points

The rather pathetic looking force key.

The setup. The two sides battling across the factory riddled forge world.

The Space Marines gain the initiative and Force Braxus goes on double orders to make its way to objective 3. Unsuccessfully the Land Raiders attempt to take shots at the distant Raidas but they are beyond their range.

The battlewagon mounted Bad Boyz go on double orders and speed off to claim objective 6.

Legios Morticus than moves into action, weaving around the Adeptus Mechanicus monastary, but is unable to gain a bead on its orkish counterpart.

The Raidas themselves double and using their superior speed cut off Force Braxus from objective 3.

Force Cosades begins moving through the menial prefabs towards objective 2.

Durzog bellows orders, forcing the Dreaded Deff crew into overwatch.

Turn 1 Victory Points
Orks: 2
SM: 0

Again the Space Marines take the initiative and Force Braxus commences engage orders on the Raiders ... the Assault troopers jumping into combat or atop the rooftop of the surrounding prefab as the Land Speeders weave around to provide support fire and the Land Raiders move in, deploying their deadly Terminator cargo. Yet both sides cause equal damage, killing two units each and they remain locked in assault.

The Bad Boyz amble around in confusion as they fail their Command test.

Legio Morticus rounds the Monastery only to come into sight of the waiting guns of the Dreaded Deff losing a void shield and taking a Power Field in vengeance.

The Raidas fight back against marines and again both sides come up in a draw.

Force Cosades continues its advance through the prefabs with the Devastators lead by Librarian Vadicus taking point on the roof of objective 2.

Turn 2 Victory Points
Orks: 3
SM: 1

The Space Marines again take the lead with Force Braxus and the Raidas continueing their bloody battle, wittling away each others numbers but neither will give up objective 3.

The Bad Boyz finally get their act together and advance forward, deploying from their battlewagons before opening fire on the Devastators atop objective 2 ... thankfully for Force Cosades all but one unit is saved by the cover of the structure.

Legio Morticus comes under heavy fire of Dreaded Deff and thanks to well placed gutbuster shot is reduced to no void shields and suffering a point of damage. In retialation Morticus unloads its Gatling Cannon on the Gargant, stripping away the last of its Power Fields before launching a barrage from its multi-launcher, but to no effect.

Force Cosades regroups as the tactical squads move onto the roof of the nearby prefab and the dreadnoughts circle around, unleashing their own hail of fire on the Bad Boyz, though they cause numerous casualties the Orks are to numerous to be fased.

Turn 3 Victory Points
Orks: 3
SM: 2

Again the Space Marines gain the initiative and the bloodied remains of Force Braxus finally manage to break the Raidas, sending them fleeing, reduced to a mere 4 units against the Raidas 3.

Dreaded Deff unleashes hell on Legio Morticus, restripping away its void shields and delivering damage and more damage ... its Deff Kannon doing little damage on its Titan Killer roll but causing a critical hit ... Morticus suffers a reactor leak taking even further damage.

Force Cosades huddles in its cover as it fails its command roll with the Bad Boyz taking advantage, unleashing the full number of their guns, but the Marines hold out.

Obviously in desperate repairs with the Reactor Leak Legio Morticus follows Cosades example and promptly fails its command roll.

Turn 4 Victory Points
Orks: 3
SM: 7

And Legio Morticus suffers a further point of damage as it fails to repair the reactor leak.

Durzog kicks the Gargant into action quickly this turn and the Legio Morticus has no hope as it comes under the gargants full fire power ... with a groan of twisting metal it collapses to the ground.

The Raidas failing to rally flee the table.

Force Casades and the Bad Boyz exchange one last turn of fire, neither coming towards breaking point however.

At this point it was getting late and I was happy with the final result.

Turn 5 Victory Points
Orks: 9
SM: 9

Well it was interesting, I was alittle disappointed that I overterrained the board, not giving the Titan or the Gargant much opportunity to engage any detachment but each other. I also learned a kult of speed is good at assaulting enemy detachments ... as long as those formations arn't full of Assault Marines and Terminators (but it was a very close battle).

I ended up placing more objectives than either side could ever really contest for the size of the game, but live and learn.

Interesting battle report. Any chance of getting a copy of those hybrid rules? I'm one of those weird ones who actually like to read war game rules.  :)

I'm affraid you will have to wait until I get all my little scraps and bits together :p

The only thing I have typed up are most of the armylists ... and even most of those still have sections of 'white space'

EDIT

But heres something I need some opinions of, trying to balance out this army composition table ... I've took a page out of 40k/Warhammer with detachments split into 3 types, basic, special and titan.
