Yeah, I was the madman with eleven submissions... what can I say, I like making army lists!  *laugh*

So, what were some of the other entries sent in?

Well, I'm still technologically challenged, so I don't have a pdf handy, but the Raven Guard list I submitted is pretty minimalist.  Aside from the bits below, everything is as the handbook mods for the Codex Marines:
===========

RG1.1 Strategy Rating
A Raven Guard army has a Strategy Rating of 5.

RG1.2 Initiative Rating
Raven Guard and Titan Legion formations have an initiative rating of 1+.
Imperial Navy formations have an initiative rating of 2+.

RG1.3 Raven Guard Drop Pods
Through millennia of practice Raven Guard have perfected methods of deploying from orbit via drop pods.  When rolling for drop pods to scatter, a Raven Guard player may choose to reroll the results.  The results of the reroll are binding and must be used even if the results are worse.

RG1.4 Garrisons
Raven Guard generally avoid holding static positions whenever possible.  When playing a General Tournament Scenario, a Raven Guard player may only garrison formations where half or more of the units (rounding up) are scouts.  The other qualifications for allowing formations to garrison do not apply to Raven Guard.

Units:

Ravenguard Assault - assault marines without jump packs, transportable as tactical marines for pods, rhinos, etc..

Ravenguard Heavy Scout - scout marines with 4+ save and 4+ FF.

Ravenguard Speeders - may use planetfall.

Ravenguard Terminators - May use drop pods.

Formations:

No Land Raider or Vindicator formations.

Raven Guard Assault: Four Raven Guard Assault units plus transport; Commander, Dreadnought, Razorbacks, Hunter, Vindicator, Drop Pods; 175 points

Scout - Four Scout units plus transport; Commander, Heavy Scouts, Razorbacks, Sniper; Note:  After all upgrades, 50% of units must have Scout ability; 150 points

Upgrades:

Heavy Scouts - Add one or two Raven Guard Heavy Scout units, plus transport; 50 points each

==========

BTW, E&C's grot army - hilarious!  I love the size-relational references for the "Gargant Mob" (dreads and kanz), etc..

My entry was for a regiment of Imperial Guard in Heavy Armour, called the ISHVARAN RELICAETOR.  I'd fancied doing some sort of heavy infantry list, with a bent towards city fighting, since GW released the marmite Vostroyans :;): :p

I've attached my word document (I'm not technologically advanced for pdf's!), but for those who can't be bothered to read it, here's the background of the regiment:

The regiments of Ishvara, a Temple world located at the heart of the Segmentum Pacificus, are highly disciplined and well equipped soldiers, and totally faithful to the Imperial Creed.

Ishvara is covered in countless ancient monuments ? the relics, memorials and tombs of millions upon millions of Imperial citizens from the Segmentum who have given their lives as martyrs to defend the Imperium and serve their Emperor.  The Ishvaran Relicaetor (meaning ?Tomb Watch? or ?Martyr Guard? in High Gothic, as translated from the native dialect) were originally raised and trained firstly to defend the vast, labyrinthine City-monuments which cover the planet.  As such they have been trained to fight in enclosed battle-zones, such as Hive Cities, Industrial factory Zones, or even on the ships of Battlefleet Ishvara.  Their armour is the match for any Kasrkin or Storm Trooper, as it is inlaid with the compact and durable marble-like rock from which many of Ishvara?s memorials are carved.  To reflect their specialisation in close-quarters and urban warfare the Ishvaran regiments favour the usage of Heavy Bolters to suppress enemy infantry, and melta weapons and missile launchers to deal with enemy armour and larger targets.  The dress uniform of the Ishvaran regiments are dusty-green fatigues, with their armour vests the same pale grey as the stone of Ishavara?s relics and tombs.

Regiments of Ishvara have been incorporated in to the PDF of many planets, usually Hive Worlds, Industrial Worlds or highly populated planets, and due to their discipline and specialisation are typically assigned to defend important and strategic sites such as the planetary Capital or a Governor?s palace.  Ishvaran regiments are also frequently drawn in to service in the Imperial Navy, where their specialisation, not to mention their meltagun equipped weapons teams, have proved invaluable to Imperial Admirals in boarding actions.  Although there have been very few Artillery or Armoured regiments raised from Ishvara, it is not uncommon for Ishvaran battle groups, PDF and armies to be assigned support from other Imperial Artillery or Armoured regiments.  So Ishvarans have frequently fought with the support of squadrons of Leman Russ or batteries of Artillery.  The vehicle most commonly employed by Ishvaran regiments is the Sentinel, either to support infantry platoons, or as scout formations on their own.  It is also not unknown for Ishvaran regiments, specifically the special weapon teams and Grenadiers, who have served on Imperial Ships to be granted Naval aircraft such as Valkyrie transport or Vulture gunships.  However it is rarer still to find Ishvaran companies and regiments that have been assigned Ogryn support, as the Ishvarans generally don?t get on with what they consider to be dim-witted and un-disciplined soldiers; in the same respect the Ogryn?s find the Ishvaran?s too snooty and don?t have any time for them!  The rare occasion Ogryns have been attached to Ishvaran regiments is after a hard-fought campaign, where they have fought alongside and grown to respect each other.

Even though their faith and loyalty makes them determined and stoic defenders wherever they are stationed, they are also implacable fighters when they are sent to attack the enemies of the Emperor.  A notable example of this, and one of the most famous actions of the Ishvaran regiments, was during the Apollascene Schism of 743.M40.  The XXXXth Ishvaran were assigned to the planetary capital of Apollascus when a Chaos-inspired cult rose up and attempted to over-throw Imperial Rule.  The cult had infiltrated many high-ranking officials in the Military and Planetary leadership, and they planned to storm the Governor?s Palace and kill the ruling family in one swift blow.  Knowing the reputation of the Ishvaran regiments, and wishing to destroy them before they could attack the Palace, the Governor?s second-in-command (one of the cult leaders) convinced the Governor that there was going to be an assassination attempt on his life, originating from a planned uprising in the West of the capital, 7 miles from the Governor?s Palace.  He persuaded the Governor that he should lead several regiments of the Appoloscene PDF ? including the XXXXth Ishvaran ? to make a pre-emptive strike against the uprising.  The Governor agreed, and when PDF and Ishvarans reached the alleged site of the uprising the betrayal was revealed; the Ishvarans, outnumbered 3-to-1, were attacked by the traitorous PDF.

Although reeling from this initial attack, the Ishvarans? discipline came to the fore, and they re-grouped and fell back to a defensive position in one of the city?s major commercial and administrative sectors.  For three days the traitors tried to overwhelm the Ishvarans and prize them from their protection in the densely packed buildings, but each time they were repelled.  During this time the traitors struck against the Governor?s palace itself, and the few PDF forces still loyal to him were besieged by a horde of traitorous guardsmen and cultists.  Word of this reached the commanders of the Ishvaran regiment, and they planned to breakout of their position and aid the defenders of the Governor?s palace.

But first they would need to withdraw from their position without taking heavy losses from their attackers.  They planned a trap for the traitor PDF that still hounded them, and withdrew all but a third of their forces, making it seem that they were attempting to retreat to the Governor?s Palace.  The traitors saw this as an opportunity to finally overwhelm and scatter remaining Ishvarans, so they launched a final decisive assault.  Unbeknownst to them, the Ishvarans had spent two days sending scouting parties in to the labyrinthine ancient sewer network that ran underneath the buildings, and had found a number of areas where they could redeploy unseen by their attackers.  As the traitors launched their attack they were suddenly ambushed from their Eastern flank and rear by the rest of the Ishvarans who cut down every last traitor.

They then made their way to the palace, finding their way largely unchallenged as almost all the traitor forces were engaged in the Siege of the palace.  They finally reached it 6 days in to the Siege, just as the fatigued fragments of the loyalist PDF were about to be overwhelmed by the Traitors.  Deploying as quickly as they could, they had their fire teams take up positions in the towering Administratum facility overlooked by the Palace, and under their covering fire the rest of the Regiment assaulted the traitors? rear positions, taking them by surprise and causing panic and confusion.  Shocked to find they were being attacked, the traitors? assault on the palace waned ? but it was not enough to prevent them breaching the palace?s defences.  They penetrated to the heart of the Palace and murdered the Governor, his family, and all those still loyal to him.

But the Ishvarans? had broken the siege and scattered the traitors and cultists.  Before they could take control of the Palace?s defences, the Ishvarans? stormed the palace killing all of the staggered remnants of the traitor forces that stood in their way.  When they finally reached the heart of the Palace they found the Governor?s body, and in his seat of authority the former second-in-command, who seemed to be attempting to turn the throne room in to some altar to the Chaos powers.  He was summarily executed by the Regiment?s Commissars, and the Ishvaran commanders formed an emergency administration, declaring martial law in the City until loyal PDF and other Imperial Forces arrived to over see the total purging of the cult from the planet and the installation of a new Governor.

In terms of the list, I based the basic unit on the IG Storm Trooper statline, but changed the weapons so that one in two units has a Meltagun, and one in two has a missile launcher.

I very nearly didn't enter this competition, but inspiration struck me the morning before the comp ended, so I did this in an hour!  Probably why this entry wasn't good enough to win, ha! :laugh: :D

Well I knew I'm rubbish at writing balanced lists, so I thought I'd go for the fun angle instead. :)

Sun-Tzork's Grotling Waaaaaaaaaaagh!

I loved your quote about being exactly 6 feet tall, which reminded me of another quote: "He was a tall man, as big as a tree that was 6 feet tall."

Which I remembered, of course, by being exactly 6 feet tall.

The use of 7+ factors for the grots was particularly clever.

For my continental friends: 6 feet == 1.83 m.
